Rihanna proved
that she was just more than a sexy voice as she
withstood what was a lot of pain to uphold a New
Zealand tradition.
The singer marked her trip to the country by getting a
traditional Maori tattoo, but also had it done the
traditional way: with a chisel and hammer.
Done by Moko Ink, the Stay singer manages to crack a
smile despite the blood, but rocks back and forth from
the pain when the procedure is done on her
knuckles. The tattoo studio's website describes what
they do and why:
"Moko Ink is the world's first Maori Tattoo studio
specialising in the contemporary use and creation of
traditional Maori and Polynesian Tatu.
"We make one off body art keeping alive the language
and traditions that are unique to the art form. All our
art is custom designed for each person on a consultation
basis.
"The language of Ta Moko is used to design a unique
piece of body art expressing aspects that relate to the
wearer."
