My name is Tolulope Daniel Banjo,usually adressed as Trillz(Mummi's Boi), I am an Accountancy Student of the Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti. I am a Prince from Ado- Ekiti.
What is your motivation for doing music?
My parents are creative artistes who apart from being top management staff in the civil service are also into movie-making. My mummy is a thespian and my dad is a one-time National Executive Member of NANTAP. In fact I came from a family of creative people. Music is an innate thing to me. My parents saw the ability and urge in me to express myself in music and encouraged me. I have loved music from my childhood days. In fact daddy once told me that I could only be made to stop crying while I was a baby with a music either being played through a radio or a tape player. It is the easiest thing for me to do.
Tell us about some of the works you've done. Songs you've released and artistes and producers you've worked with.
I have not actually produced into the music market. I have nevertheless been featured along side some notable artistes in concerts and show across campuses within the Southwest.
I've released couple of singles like Mummi's Boi,See My Mama and few more all produced by Marzel(a cotonue based producer doing very well too,but now relocated to lagos city).
What's the biggest challenge facing your career.
My biggest challenge so far is the level of poverty I see among creative artistes in Nigeria especially owing to lack of appropriate laws to protect intellectual property and deter copyright crimes. I really love to do music and make a career out of it but I feel discouraged each time I realize that the expectation of the society from me is higher than what music career in Nigeria holds for most creative artistes.
Do you think the government is doing enough to support musicians?
We Dont have a government with any system to allow people realize their dreams and vision in life without going out of their way to engage in things they Dont actually have flare for. You must either be a politician or top police or military man to live comfortably in Nigeria. Otherwise you would be forced to go against your interest and conscience to make money to meet your personal and societal obligations. In fact we do not have any responsible government so to speak. What we have is propagandists in power.
What are your songs about?
I sing about anything. I Dont sing about politics because Nigerian politics requires more of lamentation than songs. It requires a great talent in dirge which I Dont have. I sing about love, about nature, about the awesomeness of God and the frivolous nature of man,anything at all to keep the masses going.
How do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration is from God. I draw from anything around me. I pick on things from a multidimensional perspective and come out with my opinion expressed in music,and that's why I'm Mummi's Boi,a young talented art ready to take the world by storm.
Where do you see yourself in the next five years?
I look on to God for grace and favour in my newly started journey. If government and Asuu would agree to be friends at least for two years without interruption I hope to conclude my education and proceed to a more salubrious clime to have a career development training in music and start my own band side by side my Accountancy firm.
