Checkout. Restaurant With Tables Around Old Cemetery [Photos]

An Indian
restaurant owner claims business has
flourished since opening his eatery at
the site of an old cemetery.
Rather than ripping out the graves to
make way for his restaurant, owner
Krishnan Kutti even chose to preserve
the coffins and place tables around them
at the ironically-named New Lucky
Restaurant in Ahmadabad.
The coffins are the remnants of a Muslim
cemetery and the cafe has now become
a popular hang-out for both young and
old.
Kutti said: 'The graveyard brings good
luck. Our business has been flourishing
because of these graves. It gives people
a unique experience.
'We have maintained the graves as they
were. Our customers don't seem to
mind.'
Around a dozen graves lay inside the
restaurant and have been sealed off by
iron grills.

Gunmen Attack Church In Kenya, Kill Four

Four people have been killed after
gunmen opened fire in a church near the
Kenyan city of Mombasa, officials say.
They say a number of people were
injured after at least two gunmen
walked into the church in Likoni and
started shooting indiscriminately.
The attackers managed to escape on
foot before police arrived.
No group has claimed responsibility for
the shooting, but officials have blamed
Islamist militants from the al-Shabab
group for similar attacks.

FG to Fight Corruption in the Petroluem Industry with 1 Billion Dollars

President Goodluck Jonathan on
Sunday said the Federal Government
had set aside $1bn to implement a
comprehensive programme aimed at
checking the menace of crude oil theft,
vandalism of oil and gas infrastructure
and prosecution of oil thieves.
A statement by his Special Adviser on
Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati,
quoted the President as speaking at The
Hague in separate meetings with the
Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mr.
Mark Rutte; and the Chief Executive
Officer, Shell International, Mr. Ben van
Beurden.
Jonathan is at The Hague to take part in
the 2014 global Nuclear Security
Summit, which opens on Monday (today)
.
The President said a technical committee
had been set up to look into all aspects
of the implementation of the
programme.
This, he explained, would include further
action to enhance the security of
pipelines and other oil industry
infrastructure; resolve community-
related issues; boost youth
empowerment in oil producing areas and
enhance the commitment of oil
companies to the discharge of their
corporate social responsibilities.
Jonathan said the onslaught against oil
theft planned by his administration
would require the maximum cooperation
of the international community,
especially countries like the Netherlands,
which were major stakeholders in the
global oil industry.
"Oil theft is an aspect of global terrorism,
which has become a big industry on its
own. It has become a major threat to the
Nigerian economy and we need to work
with all stakeholders to curb it. The
thieves must be traced, apprehended
and prosecuted," the statement quoted
the President as saying.
The Dutch Prime Minister was quoted to
have assured the President of the
commitment of the Netherlands to
concerted action against crude oil theft
and global terrorism.
Rutte, who remarked that Jonathan's
visit affirmed the strong ties between
Nigeria and the Netherlands, also
assured the President of the willingness
of his country to collaborate more with
Nigeria on environmental and security
issues, particularly in the Niger Delta.
He praised Nigeria's leadership role in
promoting regional security in West
Africa, and welcomed the signing of an
agreement on immigration between both
countries as well as the strong trade
relations between them.
"The President's visit is an open
testimony of the strong ties between
Nigeria and Netherlands. Nigeria is
Netherlands' main trading partner in
Africa and the Netherlands is the second
biggest European investor in Nigeria,"
the Prime Minister reportedly said.

Deadly Ebola virus reaches Guinea capital Conakry

An ebola epidemic that has already killed dozens of people in Guinea's southern forests has spread to the capital, Conakry, the United Nations children's
agency has said.
"At least 59 out of 80 who contracted Ebola across the West African country have died so far. Over the past few days,
the deadly haemorrhagic fever has quickly spread from the communities of Macenta, Gueckedou, and Kissidougou to the capital, Conakry," UNICEF said in a statement emailed to AFP.
Conakry, a vast, sprawling port city on Guinea's Atlantic coast, is estimated to have a population of between 1.5 and two million. To date, no treatment or vaccine is available for Ebola, which kills between 25 and 90 percent of those who fall sick, depending on the strain of the virus,
according to the World Health
Organisation.
The disease is transmitted by direct contact with blood, faeces or sweat, or by sexual contact or unprotected handling
of contaminated corpses.
UNICEF said at least three victims of the outbreak, which began on February 9, were
children.
"This outbreak is particularly
devastating because medical staff are among the first victims, so far it has killed at least eight health workers who
have been in contact with infected patients, hindering the response and threatening normal care in a country already lacking in medical personnel,"
UNICEF said.
The organisation said it had rushed five tonnes of aid, including medical supplies, to the most affected areas in
Guinea's south.
"In Guinea, a country with a weak medical infrastructure, an outbreak like this can be devastating," said the organisation's Guinea representative, Mohamed Ag Ayoya.
"UNICEF has pre-positioned supplies and stepped up communication on the ground to
inform and sensitise medical staff and the population on how to avoid contracting Ebola."
The organisation urged Guineans not to attend funerals wherever possible and to avoid all contact with the sick and the
dead.
Ebola, one of the world's most virulent diseases, was first discovered in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in
1976 and the country has had eight outbreaks.
The most recent epidemic, also in the DRC, infected 62 people and left 34 dead between May and November 2012, according to the country's health ministry.
There are fears it could be used in a biological weapons attack.
According to researchers, the virus multiplies quickly, overwhelming the immune system's ability to fight the infection.
Medical aid group Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said in a statement on Saturday it had set up isolation units for suspected
cases in the southern region of Nzerekore and was seeking out people who may have had contacts with the infected.

Free Internet For The Whole World

Free internet across the globe for all
| courtesy Project Outernet
Yes i know you would be wandering
what a nonsense news ,it would be
to get free wifi across the globe that
too for free, but this is a true one.
Recently A New York based non-
profit organization called Media
Development Investment Fund
(MDIF) has announced the

"Outernet" project which will help
the people across the globe to
connect with each other by providing
free Internet access to all people,
regardless of their location on earth
that means you could be in Namibia
or African amazon forest ,you get
internet on your smartphones and
laptops for free.
MDIF proposes that hundreds of cube
satellites be built and launched to
create a constellation in the sky, that
will allow anyone with a phone or a
computer to access Internet via
satellites and ground stations. The
organization adds that 40 percent of
the world's population is still not able
to connect to the Internet because of
high cost.
The Newly launched Project called
Outernet will allow people from
across the globe, whether from
Siberia or remote villages of Africa or
anywhere in world, to get the same
information as those in New York and
US. The Outernet will allow data to
flow from feeders to the satellites
and broadcast to everyone on earth.
MDIF also plans to add the ability to
transmit data from anywhere as well,
as soon as the funds become
available.
MDIF said that building such a
network would not be cheap project
to with. Such satellites typically
require $ 100,000 to $ 300,000 to
build and launch. The project
timeline calls for deploying the initial
'CubeSats' as early as next summer.
The organisation aims to send a
constellation of satellites in space
that would broadcast data, received
in a continuous loop until new fresh
data turns up. Broadcasting of the
data will be done using already
accepted international standards
such as UDP-based WiFi multicasting,
DVB, and Digital Radio Mondiale.

70 million Nigerians lack safe water, says UNICEF

EARLY 70 million Nigerians lack access to
safe drinking water, the United Nations
Children Fund (UNICEF) said at the
weekend.
The Chief of Water and Sanitation sector,
UNICEF Nigeria, Mr. Kannan Nadar who
was represented by Dr. Boluwaji
Onalede WASH specialist, stated thus in
Abuja at the 2014 World Water Day.
She said a staggering 768 million people
do not have access to safe drinking
water worldwide, according to a joint
report from UNICEF and the World Health
Organisation(WHO) published in 2013.
The report, according to her, placed
Nigeria as the third country with most
people without access to safe water.
Onalede said with support from EU and
UKAid, over 1.9 million people gained
access to safe water in rural Nigeria in
2013 through its Water and Sanitation
Hygiene school programme.
The Minister of Water Resources, Mrs.
Sarah Ochekpe, called for collaborations
with stakeholders and agencies to tackle
the challenges of access to safe water,
sanitation and hygiene.
Ochekpe, who was represented by the
Director, Dam Operations Department in
the Ministry, Dr. Emmanuel Adanu, said
no nation can develop without adequate
supply of water and energy.
"We have over thirty dams in this
country. The ministry of power
conducted an engineering design of
these dams. It is hoped that a total of
about 147.60 mega watt will be
generated from these dams," the
minister said.
Also WaterAid Nigeria, an international
agency, said about 112 million Nigerians
lack access to basic sanitation and
hygiene.
Its Country Representative, Dr. Michael
Ojo, added that Nigeria loses N455 billion
annually to poor water, sanitation and
hygiene.
He called on government to increase
budgetary allocation to the water sector
to improve water service delivery.
"We want to see that money go to the
people who need it the most; the most
vulnerable in our society. To ensure that
the investment that is made go to those
who need the services the most," Ojo
said.
