A lifeless body of LASU Student was dumped at Ijesha bustop Lagos

A 300 level Economics student of the Lagos State University (LASU) identified as Miss Rita Onwuli, has been murdered by unknown persons in Lagos.
Her lifeless body was found near a church at the Odo Olowu Street, Ijeshatedo, on the Apapa – Oshodi Expressway, Lagos.

According to report, Rita had left home on Tuesday and for three days, she was nowhere to be found. Her friends, colleagues and family members searched for her to no avail and on Thursday, they got the shock of their life as they were called to come and see dead body.
Rita's bag which had some of her personal belongings and her phone was found by her side and that's how they were able to reach out to some people who disclosed her identity, and promised to come to the scene immediately.
A team of policemen from the Ijeshatedo Police Station which had responded to the call by members of the Neighbourhood Watch, had a hectic time dispersing passers-by from taking snap shots of the body and they also declined comment about the incident.
A member of the Neighbourhood Watch, Mr Badmus Azeez Adeniyi, who spoke on the incident said, "There is no clue yet on what could have happened to the lady. But it is like a case of murder that took place somewhere. Apparently, the perpetrators had waited for the cover of the dark to drop her corpse here. Nobody can say exactly when they did this but it surely cannot be anything around 10pm and 11pm last night because we still passed through this area when we were on surveillance watch last night."
When contacted, the LASU Public Relations Officer, Mr Sutton Kayode, said he was going to check if Onwuli was a student of the institution

The baby was born to a 16-year-old girl in the nation's Eastern Cape and she died a day later at the Nelson Mandela Academic Hospital. The baby also had no nose and the one eye was set in the middle while the remaining area was covered with skin.
According to reports: The birth of yet another deformed infant to a 16-year-old mom from the Eastern Cape has raised serious concerns. The Eastern Cape Health Department is now calling for research into why so many babies were being born with deformities in the province.
Eastern Cape spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo told the South Africa news agency that some 50 deformed babies have been born in the region in the past two years and there is no "documented cause" for the growing trend.
Describing the baby girl born on Saturday at the Dr Malizo Mpehle district hospital in Tsolo, near Mthatha, Kupelo said: "She was born with a small man-hood on the forehead and one eye on the forehead."
"She was born with no nose and where there are supposed to be eyes there was nothing, just skin covered over the area."
Earlier this month, a pair of conjoined twins were born also at the Dr Malizo Mpehle district hospital in Tsolo, SAPA reported, adding that they were the fifth set of conjoined twins to be born in the region in the past year and half. Other deformities witnessed in the area include babies with their hearts and brains exposed, as well as babies born with multiple penises and legs.
Doctors in the area remain "in the dark" as to the root cause of the growing number of deformed babies, Kupelo said and has asked specialists and researchers to help determine the cause.
He also hopes to bring in more pediatrics specialists. In most cases, babies born with deformities die, but "where necessary we attempt procedures but unfortunately the majority die," Kupelo said

Ekiti Doctors Threaten Strike Over Heavy Taxation

Doctors employed by the Ekiti State government have threatened to start a warning strike if by Monday, April 7, government refuses to meet their demands.
The doctors are complaining among others of what they call heavy taxation on its members by the state government, asking for massive tax reduction.
The doctors, under the aegis of Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, called for immediate restoration of the Consolidated Medical Salary Scale to Doctors working at the local government level as applicable to their colleagues at the secondary and tertiary hospitals.
The union took the decision to embark on warning strike at its Ordinary General Meeting of Thursday, March 27 following government's failure to meet their demands despite several meetings with Governor Kayode Fayemi on the matter.

DSS releases statement on Attempted jailbreak in Abuja

The Spokesperson for the Department of State Security Service, Marilyn Ogar, has issued a statement on the attempted jailbreak at the headquarters of the Nigeria's secret police.

At 0715 hours, the Service suspect handler went to the detention facility within the Headquarters to feed the suspects. One of the suspects attempted to disarm him by hitting him at the back of his head with his handcuff. His attempt to escape drew the attention of other guards at the facility who fired some shots to warn and deter others.
The gun shots attracted the attention of the military with whom we have an understanding of mutual assistance in the event of any threat. The Army immediately deployed a team to reinforce our perimeter guards to forestall any external collaborators.
The situation has since been brought under control. Further details will be communicated

I was born in 1950's.
Before I was born, the universe came into existence with a big bang about some 4.6 billion years ago, our solar system formed. Life arose and lots of animals evolved. Somewhere on the continent of Africa, modern man arose, and spread across the other continents. Civilization blossomed, along with the domestication of animals, tools, technology, and information; I was oblivious to all of these events.
I didn't exist yet, but everything that ever happened in the universe, happened – and it went by in an instant. That "instant" spanned about 13 billion years. It could have been even longer, it doesn't matter, because to you and I, it was still an instant. We have the luxury of science and history to tell us of our universal past, but without that, the only recollection we could possibly have of anything is what we actually lived through.
What's the point?
The point is that when you die, it's likely the same thing. The only difference is that there is no "instant" at the other end for you to suddenly become conscious, like birth. Instead, time and events like the ones listed above will happen on their own, without you, just like they did before you were born. Time will go on until the end of the Universe, if there is, but you won't be able to know it
.
Should we be afraid of death?
I will freely admit that death itself does not scare me. The physical act of dying terrifies me. I don't want it to be painful, and I don't want it to be drawn out. I want peace and tranquility, like any other normal person would want. Though I am not afraid of death, the thought of it saddens me. I love life so much that it crushes me to think that I wouldn't be able to spend time with family and friends. Of course, losing a loved one is equally painful for the same reasons. It also saddens me that I wouldn't witness the next great advances in technology. Imagine the people of the 1800's; they could never have imagined BlackBerry, IPad, Facebook, Skype, Email etc. I'm in my 60's now; can you imagine what kind of technology the human race will discover in the next century?
Now to theKokoof this matter, this is not to rattle your belief in Heaven or Hell and life after death, but just to make you think. After all what do I know, even as I write this I maybe so high, but it is my opinion and not yours.
It would be reassuring to know that there was some sort of life after death, but simply put, there is no real evidence for this, no matter which religion is scrutinized. In fact, it seems that people's life after death experience is biological in nature. After all, they can be simulated with drugs and put in a lab. It also seems very anthropocentric to believe that we are so special that we deserve an afterlife. There are all sorts of problems with life after death – based on religious views and different versions of "heaven" and "hell"; the concept of the soul; the age of the person (for example: do one day old infants get life after death?); animals (do they get to experience it too?)
Some people would be asking by now, which one be all this grammarsef?
We have got one life to live on this planet, just one. You should do everything in your power to enjoy it to the fullest, no slacking my guy and to make sure that everyone and everything around you has the same opportunity. So, what happens when you die? - I think the answer is mundane and simple, Nothing!

531 Morsi Supporters Sentenced To Death in Egypt

An Egyptian court has sentenced two people to death for throwing people off a roof during violence in Alexandria last year, the country's state news agency said.
The court handed down the sentences to two supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsi on Saturday, according to AFP news agency, adding to the 529 people sentenced to death last week for their alleged involvement in violence that has swept the country since July, when the army overthrew Morsi.
One of the two people thrown from the building in Alexandria was killed.
The court submitted its verdict for approval to the mufti.
Amateur video posted on social network sites at the time showed men throwing two youths from the building.
It showed four young men on the rooftop who are followed by several older men, one of them bearded and holding a flag.
The men are seen throwing stones at the youths and later one is thrown from the roof.
The video goes on to show club-wielding men beating the youth's body. Another man is later thrown from the roof and survives but is injured.
The incident is said to have taken place in the coastal city on July 5, during protests calling for Morsi's reinstatement. The sentenced men were among 63 people on trial for violence in the Sidi Gaber neighbourhood. Verdicts for the remaining defendants are expected in May.
Last week's mass sentencing of 529 people provoked outrage and condemnation from human rights groups, the US and the European Union.
An additional 700 Brotherhood supporters, including Mohamed Badie, the supreme guide of the movement, were also due in court last week but their trial was adjourned until April 28.

Police shuts down Davido's NY concert because it was over-packed

Police Department last night March 28th shut down Davido's concert which held at Pulse 48 in Brooklyn because the concert was overbooked, leading to safety concerns. People going to the concert caused shut down of two blocks in Brooklyn, forcing the police to intervene.

The show yesterday was supposed to be Davido's first show as he kicks off US/Canada Tour 2014. He has a show in D.C today and Minnesota tomorrow. Then Dallas, Texas on Friday the 4th of April, then makes a final stop in Toronto, Canada on the 5th of April.

Fake Pastor Caught With Human Skull During Prayer Session

The ancient city of Ibadan has been in the news since the discovery of the Ritualist house of horror

The latest that is coming from
the ancient city is that a man who disguised as a Pastor has been nabbed after he was discovered to be in possession of a human skull.
The preacher, dressed in white garment and going about preaching at the top of his voice and receiving money from people, was arrested at Agbowo Junction.
A man approached the fake Pastor to pray for him but during the
prayer the man observed something inside his bag. After the prayer, the man made as
if he wanted to give the Pastor some money but he immediately grab his bag and while dragging the bag, to the surprise of
everyone, a human skull drop.
A mob, having been attracted by the shocking discovery, descended on the fake Pastor
and beat him to a pulp as others who had begged the Pastor to pray for them watch with shock.
But for the intervention of
policemen attached to the Kajorepo Police Division, the fake preacher would have been beaten to death and even set ablaze.
He is now in police cell, answering questions about his activities.

Domestic Aide Beheads retired-Magistrate In Abeokuta

According to PM news Abeokuta, capital of Ogun state in western Nigeria has witnessed yet another horror: the beheading of a 65- year old retired magistrate, Mrs Olufunmilayo Timeyin by her domestic aide, simply identified as David.
The tragedy happened at the Laderin Housing Estate, Kobape Road, barely 48 hours after an insane police corporal killed seven people and subsequently committed suicide in the same Abeokuta.
A witness told journalists at the scene of the incident that it happened at about 4:00. p.m. in the deceased's house.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Timeyin, who retired as a senior magistrate in the Ogun state judiciary, employed the domestic aide about two months ago.
David who hails from Benue, was said to have been sacked and arrested by the police after he allegedly stole jewellery, mobile phones and some electronic gadgets, from his boss.
He however, returned to the house Friday afternoon shortly after regaining freedom from police custody and jumped the fence.
He was alleged to have deactivated the security alarm system in the house and lurked in one corner, while an unsuspecting Timeyin returned from an outing.
The witness said Timeyin packed her blue Toyota Camry car– marked Lagos KIA 141 BU– outside the house, apparently planning to go out again.
The source said that the domestic aide attacked Timeyin with a machete immediately she opened her gate.
Timeyin's son, identified as Olumide, who arrived the house with his mother, raised an alarm that a thief was inside his mother's house.
But, by the time neighbours came round, the retired magistrate had been beheaded and his assailant and househelp had escaped into the bush.
The suspect was, however, arrested by residents of the area and handed over to the police.
The Chief Judge of Ogun state, Justice Olatokunbo Olopade, and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftain Affairs, Chief Muyiwa Oladipo, were part of important dignitaries who had visited the home of the deceased as at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
Though the state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, could not be reached for comments, policemen from Kemta division of Abeokuta were at the scene as the body was being moved to the morgue at about 8:00 p.m

Fayose Refused Governorship Candidate over N416m Scam

A Federal High Court in Ado-Ekiti, capital of Ekiti State, on Thursday refused the request by the governorship candidate Ayodele Fayose to delay his trial to enable him concentrate on his electoral campaign.
Last Saturday, Fayose emerged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the governorship election scheduled for June 21.
The former Ekiti governor is standing trial for allegedly misappropriating state funds to the tune of N416m during his tenure between 2003 and 2006.
At the resumed hearing on the suit, Fayose's counsel, Raji Ahmed (SAN) asked the court to adjourn the matter till the first week in July. He said that the accused must be presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Justice Adamu Hobon turned down the request after an objection by counsel to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), who said that an accelerated hearing of the matter would help Fayose.
"It would be in the interest of the accused person, so that his people can make up their mind about him and his name cleared before the election," Jacobs said.
Justice Hobon adjourned the matter till May 6, 2014 for continuation of trial.
Justice Hobon admitted eight documents tendered as exhibits by the prosecution. The documents include:

To recall, Fayose was re-arraigned on November 22, 2012 by the EFCC on a 27-count amended charge bordering on misappropriation of N416m state funds.

Indian Mob Attacks, Strips Nigerian Tourist After Missing His Way

A Nigerian tourist who lost his way in India was chased and thrashed by a mob that suspected him for a terrorist or a member of an Indian guerrilla group, known as the Naxalites.
The Times of India said the Nigerian identified as Clinton Osemwegi Igbinosun was attacked during late night hours of Wednesday. He sustained serious injuries, lost all his cloths and fell into an open sewer puddle as he fled for his life through the lanes of the village of Allapalli, located in the Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra, India
Exhausted and beaten, Clinton laid Unclad in a narrow lane when he was rescued by the local police after midnight. Police verified his claims and are going to hand him over to Foreign Registration Office (FRO) on Friday.

SDPO, Aheri, Suhas Bauche said that Clinton is a Nigerian visiting India on a tourist visa. He was heading to Bangalore from Delhi by a train. However, he got irritated by the poor services and amenities in the train and disembarked at Nagpur on Wednesday morning.
Clinton then decided to travel by bus and asked people for a bus heading to Bangalore (Vengaluru). People however failed to understand his African accent and showed him a bus for Ballarshah (Ballarpur). He boarded and disembarked by afternoon.
According to the Times of India report, Clinton got frustrated on learning that he reached a wrong destination and decided to head back to Allahabad from where he had initially started his journey. Again he asked for a bus for Allahabad at Ballarpur bus-stop and because of his NIgerian accent, people showed him the bus for Allapalli.
He reached Allapalli at around 10pm and instantly understood that he had again reached a wrong place. People turned suspicious towards the more than six-and-half feet tall Nigerian as he started looking for a hotel and sought direction for airport late in the night in the Naxal-affected area.
"His English in African accent is very difficult to understand. Cops too had a difficult time in understanding what he said. His tall demeanour and African looks turned people suspicious towards him," said SPDO Bauche. He claimed that people sought explanations in local language and broken English, which he didn't understand either.
As the crowd grew bigger, Clinton got afraid and started fleeing. People got more suspicious and started chasing him. Though Bauche did not confirm of Clinton being thrashed, local sources claimed that he was chased and beaten by the people.
How Clinton lost his cloths is however a puzzle. Cops suspect that he might have himself taken off his cloths after he fell into the sewer.
After running for hours to save his life, Clinton managed to dodge the crowd and took refuge in a narrow lane between two houses. Vilas Bandawar who woke up hearing mayhem, saw an exhausted and injured Clinton laying Unclad. He helped him wash by pouring water and gave a lungi.
Meanwhile, cops had reached the place on getting information and took him to hospital.
"We have confirmed his whereabouts and cross-checked his claims. Clinton turned out to be an innocent foreigner who lost his way. We are going to hand him over to FRO officials," said Bauche.

Learning, he speaks on his inspiration for application development. Excerpts:

TELL us about yourself.

My name is Kayode Sowole. I am from Sodeke town in Abeokuta, Ogun State. I am currently a 400-level Computer Science
student of University of Lagos.
I am a highly motivated individual who always enjoys a good challenge. My interest in computing since my childhood
has been a major factor in helping me to develop my programming skills that have led to my high level of success in mobile app development. I love developing web and mobile applications. My leisure activities include writing, travelling and listening to music.

When did you realise you wanted to become an App developer?

I made the decision to become a mobile application developer in my first year in University of Lagos in 2010 after an online video training on app development on YouTube.

So what steps did you take?

I started by downloading and installing the Java IDE, which the YouTube training had recommended. I also got the Netbeans IDE on my laptop. Then, I searched Google for related e-books and downloaded them
on my laptop for references. From that moment, I started building Java and Android apps. I found my kicks in getting
online to research and learning new stuff about app development.

What was the first app you developed?

The first app I developed is called the Picpuzzle, a picture puzzle game that requires the player to rearrange the items in a picture in the proper order. I
had fun putting that one together.

Where did you get inspiration for the app you created?

The Holy Spirit was the author of my inspiration. The thinking behind the app was that when God communicates with you in your native language, it seems as if
God is from your town for Him to have been able to talk to you.
It allows for a closer and deeper transaction with the Almighty that is very native and heartfelt. When you read the Yoruba Bible, it seems as if God is a Yoruba man, which is true because we are all copies of God's image. Language is
very powerful. If you want a people to lose their sense of identity, all you need to do is to take their language away from them. As such, providing the word of God to people in a language that they can understand is so powerful and has a very good feeling. The Wazobia Bible app, affords you the opportunity to read God's word in Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba and all English translations offline. What were the high points of your preparation?

The incorporation of the Bible into Bible programming languages such as THML (Theological Mark-up Language) and OSIS (Open Scripture Information Standard) was the most significant part of my preparation. The Theological Markup Language is a new markup language that is being used to
mark up texts for the Christian Classics Ethereal Library and other projects. This XML application can be thought of as
HTML with additions for electronic books and rich digital libraries, with special
support for theological needs such as scripture references and Strongs numberings. Also the Open Scripture Information Standard (OSIS) is an XML application (or schema), that defines tags for marking up
Bibles, theological commentaries, and other related literature. These are useful languages I had to code with to
develop the app.

Did you know that you were going to win?

I was shocked when I received the news of my win. Someone had called me to tell me I won because I didn't attend the
presentation.

How do you feel about winning?

This is so comforting and assuring. I feel so exhilarated. I'm so happy my hard work on the app has really paid off. This
is a reward for the value I have tried to create by opening up the word of God to reach more people in a language they can
understand and appreciate.

How do you plan to maximize the platform your victory has brought?

I intend to use social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter so as
to reach out to a lot of people.

promised by MTN would help popularise the app.

Could you take us through the start-up process and its growth trajectory?

started the project by compiling the Holy Bible in Pidgin, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba
and all English translations in plain text format. Next, I built the GUI (Graphical User Interface) in Eclipse which made the project about fifty percent ready. After that, I developed the connection between the Bible files and the core of the app.
At this stage, the project was seventy five percent completed.
To complete the development of the app, I introduced the reading of other documents
such as Bible in one year, Every day in the word and other Christian books. I also made a collection of 384 bible verses which will be highlighted when
reading the Bible. At the end of this stage, Wazobia Bible app was hundred percent ready for use.

How have mobile users embraced the app and what kind of numbers have you churned out?

Wazobia Bible app has been downloaded beyond my expectation. The app has had
over 2,800 downloads on MTN App Store.

Have you been able to monetize the application?

No. It's a free app for now.

How do you intend to deal with the competition within the mobile industry?

I intend to introduce other features like reading the Bible out in audio and in the selected language such as Igbo, Hausa,
Yoruba and Pidgin.
How would you assess current level of local mobile applications development?
I think local mobile applications development is increasing rapidly and a few years from now, the local mobile
applications development community would have doubled.

MTN has launched the MTN NextApps store for various platforms, how will this impact the development of mobile
applications and related content for mobile uses ?

MTN NextApps store has definitely expanded the reach of apps to various platforms which will definitely improve mobile applications development speedily because it will encourage developers to port their apps to several platforms.

After 19 Years of Marriage, Man Discovers That His Wife Used to Be A Man

A Belgian man is seeking to have his marriage annulled after discovering that his Indonesian wife of 19 years had been born a man. The man, only named as Jan, married Monica, his family's former nanny in a previous marriage, in 1993 despite legal difficulties raised by the Belgian immigration authorities. But it was only in recent weeks that he discovered that his wife had originally been a man and had undergone a s*x change.
"I feel I've been assaulted," he said. "I brought her to Belgium. That was not easy. The Belgian courts had serious doubts about the authenticity of her birth and her identity papers, but eventually they accepted it anyway.
"I thought she was an attractive woman, all woman. She had no male traits." Jan, 64, said that he and his wife had decided not to have children because he had two by his previous marriage and she fooled him by pretending to menstruate, using sanitary towels, "to conceal the truth". "Even during s*x, I never noticed anything," he said.
For many years the couple lived a normal family life and Monica, 48, was like a "big sister" to his children until their marriage started to come under strain when she got a new full-time job.
"Monica began to change very much," he said. "My oldest son saw her sometimes at a nightclub. She began to wear very flashy clothes, those ultra-short skirts or tiny tops, so her abdomen was completely exposed." Finally rumors began to surface and after Jan found "amorous messages" from other men on her computer, he confronted her in a violent row that led to the police being called. "A friend told me that he had heard that Monica was actually a s*x-changed man. I could not believe it. My son heard similar rumors," he said.
"I pushed her against the wall and said: Now I know the truth. Are you a man? She then announced that she was born as a boy and that she had been operated on. She was now a woman, and so she did not need to tell me about her past as a man.
My world collapsed. That evening we came to blows. The police came." Jan, who is undergoing psychiatric treatment following the discovery, has started legal proceedings to have the marriage annulled but the Belgian courts have so far refused to allow him to turn her out of the family home.
"That person has deliberately deceived him for years, even scammed. Presumably she has also forged documents used here to get a residence permit. The children, who for years have lived with her, are devastated," said his Liliane Verjauw, his lawyer.

Barely three days that a kidnapper's den was discovered in Ibadan, four tongues were found on a ritualist and a man who disguised as a madman.
By standers, including a Civil Defence officer take snaps of the alleged ritualist at Ring Road, Ibadan Our correspondent gathered that the horrible event was discovered as everyone in state have become alerting and "self guards".
The nabed ritualist was said to be a middle aged man. Apart from the tongue, other items found
on him were women bras, pants and bones. The ritualist was caught at Ring Road on Tuesday, while the people of Ibadan are
yet to recover from the shocking
revelation of the forest of horror where hundred of innocent citizens have lost their lives to kidnappers.
A source told our correspondent that "The nabbed ritualist who has been staying by the side of the pedestrian bridge at Oni
and Son bus stop have been perpetuating the evil acts for some months now."
An eye witness who spoke under anonymity disclosed that luck ran against the middle aged man "when some resident of the area who have been suspecting his
movement discovered his notorious act and decided to deal with the support of police.
"While searching him, papers were among the items found under the bridge where he kept his loot and dangerous weapon."
"Also various bras and pants of different sizes were found with female clothes who are believed to be his victim. Human bones and tongue were also found at the scene," another eyewitness said.
A resident of Ibadan, Ade Kanmbi wrote, "Operation Attack Any Mad Man, Woman" begins in Ibadan following the arrest this morning, of two suspected ritualists who feigned mental derangement. One of was caught with human tongues."

Ibadan Poly Students Protest High Levy, Poor Power, Water Supply

At about 8 a.m., over one thousand
students barricaded all entrances to the
educational institution, paralysing any
kind of movement around the camous
for about four hours. The aggrieved
students, led by their Student Union
leaders, rendered anti-government
slogans.
Soon, the police trucks arrived at the
scene and tried to restore piece in the
area. The school authority agreed to
meet with the Student Union leaders.
Student Union President of the
institution, Iyiola Oladimeji briefed the
press after the meeting, which lasted for
over an hour. He explained that the
protest started because of
misunderstanding between the
management and the students. He
assured they have reached a consensus
and directed the gathering of students
to end the protest at once.
He, however, warned that, should the
school management fail to meet the
demands by the end of the week, the
next wave of protests would be far more
escalated.
The students became angered by N500
extra charges on the Entrepreneurship
Development (EEP) imposed by the
school authority. Mr. Oladimeji also
lamented poor electricity and water
supply at the institution.
He disclosed that, at the round table
discussion with the management, they
have agreed the EED log book would be
lowered to 300 for them, and that those
who had paid N500 would be refunded.
On his part, Ibadan Polytechnic Public
Relation Officer, Alhaji Sola Oladoye said:
"The Polytechnic Ibadan is also part of
the Nigeria society. I dare say than none
of us is having regular electricity supply
in our homes, and these students are
also individuals from different homes and
what they are experiencing here is not
different from what they are
experiencing in their various homes."
Also, an agreement has been reached
that regular electricity and water would
be supplied to the students one hour
before they leave their hostel and two
hours at night.

Cult Members Kill 4 People In Anambra State

The traditional ruler of Obosi community
in Idemili North Local Government Area
of Anambra State, His Majesty, Igwe
Chidubem Iweka has confirmed the
death of four persons in the area, while
15 others were critically injured in a
renewed violent clash between two
suspected cult groups in the area.
In a petition to the Speaker of Anambra
State House of Assembly dated March
11, 2014 and made available to
newsmen last weekend in his palace at
Obosi, Iweka noted that Obosi Kingdom
is now under siege and had been
overrun by cultists resulting in serial cult
wars.
According to the petition written on his
behalf by his legal counsel, Austin
Oguejiofor, the cultists, armed with guns
and other dangerous weapons,
murdered Mr Pope Okeleke and Mr
Tochukwu Obidiozor from Ugamuma
Village, Obosi.
In the petition entitled: "For your
information and necessary action in
respect of the return of violent killings
and cultism in Obosi Kingdom," the
monarch also mentioned Mr Odinaka
Umolu and one other unidentified person
from Ire Village, Obosi as those equally
murdered by the cultists, adding that
the police and local vigilance group had
been completely overwhelmed by the
menace of the cultists.
He regretted that the activities of the
hoodlums came to its epoch a few days
ago when it was discovered that army
patrol in the town had lessened as the
cultists now have a field day killing and
maiming people, including innocent
citizens.
In the petition which was also copied to
the Army, the police, DSS and National
Assembly, the monarch expressed the
fear that his investigation had revealed
that the cultists are planning to invade
his palace because they view him as the
arrow head in the war against cultism in
the area.
He, therefore, urged the speaker and
other stakeholders to take urgent steps
to set Obosi Kingdom free from the
jugulars of the cultists.
Meanwhile, Anambra State Director of
State Security Service, Mr Alex Okeiyi,
has confirmed the killings in Obosi but
said he does not know the actual
number of casualties so far recorded in
the bloody saga.
Obosi is the home town of former
Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief
Emeka Anyaoku; the Corps Marshal,
Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Osita
Chidoka, former Minister of State for
Aviation, Chief Dan Chuke, among other
prominent Nigerians.

A day old-
baby was over the weekend rescued
from a pit in Olomore area of Abeokuta
North local government of Ogun state.
An eyewitness said that residents of
Surulere community in Olomore area of
Abeokuta North woke up to a cry of a
little baby coming from a soak away
toilet behind a church in the area.
Residents said they'd heard the baby
crying in the early hours of Saturday
morning but could not link the cries to a
particular direction. However, later in
the day, around 6pm, the baby's crying
became more pronounced and they
traced it to a soak-away pit. There, they
found the baby, a boy, who was alive
with his placenta uncut.
The pit slab cover had collapsed some
years ago and had not been replaced.
The damaged slab concrete saved the
baby from going deep into the soak-
away pit.

A teenage girl named Funmilola has
been arrested by the Nigeria police after
she attacked another teenage girl with a
sharp object, slashing her neck, after
accusing her of dating her boyfriend.
15year old Haliya Odunaya (pictured
above), who is a senior secondary
student is currently receiving treatment
at Stars Clinic on Apapa Road in Ebute
Matta after the brutal attack left her
fighting for her life.
Her attacker, Funmi, who is said to be a
little older that Haliya had warned her to
steer clear of 'her man' or prepare to
pay for it. On Saturday March 15th,
Haliya paid, and paid big time.
After Funmi heard that Haliya and her
boyfriend had met up that day, she went
to Haliya's house to confront her. And
that was where the attack took place.

Narrating what happened that day with
reporters, Haliya denied having an affair
the man in question.
"I was coming from where I went to
buy something that night when
Funmilola met me at the end of the
street. She started pushing me and
insulting me but I did not utter a
word. When I entered our house, she
stood outside and was shouting at
the top of her voice heaping insults
on my parents and I.
"At that stage I decided to respond
to her threats and went to meet her
to warn her against insulting my
mother. After I had told her my mind,
I turned to go back into our building
and that was when she (Funmilola)
dragged me back and produced a
sharp object from under her cloths
and attacked me with it," Haliya said
Haliya was left there in the pool of her
blood until neighbours rushed her to the
hospital. Doctors say she's is lucky to be
alive. Meanwhile, the man has since
denied dating both young girls.
