Five Reasons Why Jonathan Lost to General Buhari - BBC

Here are five reasons why the
opposition won:
1: Harder to rig
Past elections have been marred by serious
irregularities and suspicions of rigging. In 2007
observers said the presidential poll was not
"credible". In 2011 the vote was considered to
be better run but observers said that rigging
and fraud still took place.
This time the electoral commission took more
steps to prevent rigging, including new biometric
voters cards.
Also President Jonathan's party, the People's
Democratic Party (PDP), had lost control of some
key states which meant it could not control the
electoral process there.
2: Boko Haram and security
The Nigerian army has made some recent gains
against Boko Haram, but not enough to convince
Nigerians
The election took place against the background
of an Islamist insurgency in the north-east of
the country. The Boko Haram militant group has
killed 20,000 people and forced some three
million others from their homes and President
Jonathan was criticised for not getting to grips
with this.
The poll was delayed for six weeks to give time
for the security situation to improve, but even
though most areas controlled by Boko Haram
were recaptured, it seems to have come too
late for many people.
3: United opposition, crumbling PDP
The extra six weeks of vigorous campaigning by
the PDP was not enough to halt the slide in the
party's fortunes
The PDP has been described as an election-
winning machine. When it was created it united
a northern elite with leading politicians from the
south, but that alliance has broken up and the
party lost some key figures. Even former
President Olusegun Obasanjo came out against
Mr Jonathan.
At the same time, the opposition managed to
unite under the All Progressives Congress (APC)
banner. The last six weeks of desperate and
dirty campaigning, in which the APC responded
in kind, was not enough to turn the tide.
4: Economy
Nigeria's economy is growing but the wealth is
not being spread around
Nigeria is Africa's biggest oil producer and its
largest economy, but many fail to feel the
benefits with nearly half the population living
below the poverty line. Continued corruption is
seen as partly being to blame.
National income is due to grow by more than 5%
this year and next year, but people did not
seem in the mood to thank Mr Jonathan for this.
5: Time for a change
APC supporters chanted "change" wherever they
went and it seems to have caught the mood.
The PDP has been in power since the end of
military rule in 1999, and 2015 is the year that
Nigerians decided that someone else should
have a go at sorting things out.
President-elect Buhari now has to prove he
really can change things.

Congratulations to General Buhari for a hard- won victory

! We hope this signifies the dawn of
a new era; an era when the votes of the people
count. This should send the signal that never
again should politicians take Nigerians for
granted. I salute President Jonathan for living up
to his one-man-one-vote promise; he has
succeeded in laying a solid foundation for
democracy in Nigeria. This, in itself, is a legacy,
and I hope it partly offsets his shortcomings in
office. Many thanks to Prof. Jega – a bold,
incorruptible, exemplary comrade and true hero
of our democracy – for presiding over Nigeria's
most intriguing, most difficult and most
innovative elections! Every Nigerian is a winner;
no victor and no vanquished. Events preceding
the elections to date show clearly that the
progress of Nigeria remains paramount to all, in
spite of our diversity. We should all be proud of
our maturing political system. And above all, we
should engage with the incoming parliament to
take further electoral reforms seriously. God
heal and bless our land!

PDP lied, we haven't collated results in 23 states - Jega

The Chairman of the Independent National
Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, has
dismissed claims of victory by the Peoples
Democratic Party in 23 states as reported by the
Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP
Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-
Kayode.
Fani-Kayode had on his official Twitter page on
Sunday, said,"As we speak now, we are winning
in 23 states and we have 64 per cent while the
APC is winning in 14 states and has 36 per cent."
But Jega, in a series of tweets on the official
Twitter page of INEC, countered the claim.
He urged Nigerians to be "wary of declaration
from people who are clearly partisan."
Jega said in the tweets, "I don't know where the
PDP spokesman got his source but we have not
collated results in 23 states."
The INEC boss stated that the collation of results
would begin by 12pm on Monday.
While justifying his reports, Fani-Kayode said he
got his statistics from "our polling agents at
every polling unit in the country. They gave us
the numbers."

APC drags Jonathan, Obanikoro, Fayose others to International Criminal Court

The All Progressives Congress has asked the
International Criminal Court in The Hague, to
investigate President Goodluck Jonathan and
eight others as regards an audio file which
allegedly captured some Peoples Democratic
Party's leaders giving orders to a military officer
on how to rig the June 21, 2014 governorship
election in Ekiti State in their favour.
Apart from Jonathan, others named as accused
persons in the petition are Minister of State for
Foreign Affairs II, Musiliu Obanikoro; Ekiti State
governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose; former
governorship candidate of the Peoples
Democratic Party in Osun State, Iyiola Omisore;
and Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal
Alex Badeh,
Others are Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Kenneth
Minimah, the Commanding Officer of the
Nigerian Army's 32nd Artillery Brigade
Commander, Akure, Ondo State, Brig. Gen. Aliyu
Momoh; a member of the Federal House of
Representatives, Abdulkareem; and the Minister
of Police Affairs, Mr. Jelili Adesiyan.
A copy of the petition dated March 25, 2015,
read in part, "Essentially, the recording provides
evidence of a clearly articulated strategy to
militarise Ekiti and emasculate the opposition
parties and their supporters as an approach to
rigging the elections in favour of the PDP.
"The meeting was attended by top Federal
Government officials including two ministers
responsible for the Armed Forces and Police.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, who was then
Minister of State for Defence, and Mr. Jelili
Adesiyan, the serving Minister for Police Affairs,
were senior government officials, who actively
participated in the discussions."
A copy of the petition sighted by our
correspondent on Thursday was said to have
been submitted to the office of the ICC
prosecutor, Ms. Fatou Bensouda.
It was submitted on behalf of the APC by a
United Kingdom-based human rights lawyer, Mr.
Olukunle Omojuwa.
An electronic mail containing an attachment of
the petition, which was forwarded to our
correspondent, showed that the same mail was
originally sent to the information desk of the ICC
prosecutor on Thursday.
Meanwhile, our correspondent contacted the
Public Information Officer of the ICC, Florence
Olara, on Thursday to confirm if the court had
received the APC's petition,
Olara, who said she needed to confirm from the
concerned department of the court, had yet to
revert to our correspondent as she promised as
of the time this report was filed at about 6pm
(Nigerian time) on Thursday.
The petitioner alleged that the scenario captured
in the audio file and the events that followed
had elements of torture, deprivation of physical
liberty, persecution and murder.

Buhari ought to be in Jail - Asari Dokubo

Ex-militant leader, Asari Dokubo says Gen
Buhari ought to be in jail for what he termed
the former military leaders high handedness
when he ruled Nigeria. Asari stated this while
conducting the Niger Delta People Salvation
Front, NDPSF, volunteers march in support of
President Jonathan in Warri.
"All persons who believe that never again
should those who see us all as a conquered

their pleasure; those who believes our
sovereignty must be continually confiscated;
and that you and I are mere appendages in
the Nigeria union; lead us again. We must
kick out Buhari, who is a chief promoter of
born to rule and Boko Haram terrorism.
Buhari ought to be in jail and not allowed
the luxury of contesting an election with
sane people. He is the face of deceit," he
said
Asari at the rally also warned that it would be a
gun for gun, bomb for bomb, bullet for bullet
battle if the APC Presidential candidate and his
team decides to foment trouble when he looses
the elections coming up this Saturday March

50yr old Pastor Rapes Teenager Inside His Church (photo and full details)

A 50-year-old traditional healer and Pastor of the Brotherhood Church, Udo Obot Job is now cooling his heels in the cell of Akwa Ibom State police command for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl, Mary Bassey.
The incident, Saturday Sun learnt, led to the death of the victim's father who was ill and receiving treatment at Job's healing home when the alleged rape happened at Ukat Aran village in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
It was gathered that Mrs Eno Bassey had on February 13 taken her husband, Mr. Stephen Bassey to Job's healing home for possible recovery from stroke. The state Police Commissioner, Mr Gabriel Achong, who confirmed the development, said that the suspect had demanded N400,000 for the treatment of Bassey.
He said that the family of the victim's wife was able to raise N350,000 for the treatment while on February 14, the suspect allegedly told Mrs Bassey to go to the market to buy some food items for her husband.
It was learnt that while she went on the errand, her daughter, a14-year-old Mary Bassey was drugged and thereafter deflowered.
"Immediately Mr Bassey heard what Job did to her daughter, he collapsed and died," Achong told Saturday Sun.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police, State CID Uyo, Mr. Mike Okoli added that the suspect has been arrested and the victim, Mary Bassey taken to Akpa Utong College Hospital where Dr Ubong Okon confirmed that she was defiled.
Speaking with Saturday Sun, the victim, Mary said: "The incident happened on February 14, when the suspect told my mother that she should go to the market to buy some food items for my late father. Pastor Job told me to pick some sand from the ground which he said he would use to send away some ghosts fighting my father.
"I did it by picking some sand from the ground and immediately, Pastor Job gave me some drugs to use. He told me that he wanted my future to be bright. After that, I found myself on the floor, he took me to her room and had sex with me and after I regained my consciousness, I started shouting. I saw blood and he said I should go to the stream to bathe. I then called my brother, Essien and we went and reported the matter at the police station at Nsit Ubium."
In his confession, Pastor Job told Saturday Sun: "I am a pastor and I head the Brotherhood church at Ukat Aran village. I have been into the ministry for 12 years now and I am a known traditional healer. It was on February 13, 2015 that Eno Bassey brought her husband, Stephen Bassey who was suffering from stroke and I promised to heal him. I instructed Eno to go and buy food items in the market.
"I drugged her daughter and took her into the room and defiled her. It was the devil that pushed me into it. Mr Bassey died in my church when he heard of the incident", he said CP Achong assured that Pastor Job will soon be charge to court.

APC Blast Fayose For Calling Buhari A Serial Liar

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has condemned Governor Ayodele Fayose for tagging its Presidential candidate, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), a liar.
The party was reacting to media reports where Fayose castigated Buhari ‎as not competent to contest election.
The State Publicity Secretary of the party, Taiwo Olatubosun, said the governor's action gave him away as an "unconscionable character who ought to hide his head in shame over his sundry activities that marked him out as a tragedy on the question of integrity."
According to him, Fayose is not competent to question any Nigerian over issues relating to integrity.
"Buhari told Nigerians about his educational qualification and reasons for visiting London. Except Fayose who said he saw Buhari in a London hospital, other people‎ saw him at a private home and Chatham House where he delivered a public lecture.
"Lying is a question of integrity.‎ A liar does not have integrity. Lying leads to deceit, stealing, conspiracy, murder and other vices. While Buhari has never and would never be associated with any of these vices in both private and public life, same cannot be said of Fayose who goes about with chains of alleged criminalities tied around his neck.
"It is amusing that a man once convicted of lying at the Ekiti State High Court would be the one accusing the innocent of lying.
"The latest in his lies is the denial of his involvement in the criminal conspiracy with his ilks in the Ekiti poll fraud as his voice was heard on how he collected INEC soft copies he printed to fraudulently win June 21, 2014 governorship election."
Describing Fayose as a rare breed in brigandage with no sense of shame, the APC spokesman said the governor had baggage of alleged crimes on his neck from which he had not exonerated ‎himself.
He advised Fayose to start thinking of how to plan a life after paying for his alleged crimes, noting that Buhari's presidency was a reality that could not be stopped by Fayose's frustrating tantrums.

EFCC Arrest Yahoo Boy over 20M Romance Scam (photos)

Find the EFCC Press statement below...
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested a suspected fraudster, Obiechina Chikeluba for allegedly swindling Kieran Oakes, a UK citizen, the sum of £54,000 (equivalent of N20m) in love scam. Chikeluba, a 21-year-old student of Federal Science and Technical College Yaba, Lagos, met the victim on Facebook sometime in 2013.
The suspect, using the assumed profile of an American, Lisa Jackson, entered into a relationship with Oakes, with the pair agreeing to get married. In the course of their relationship, 'Jackson' at various times collected money to the tune of £54,000 from Oakes, to enable him travel to the UK to meet her.
After an endless wait for her fiancé, it dawned on the Briton that she had been conned, and consequently petitioned the EFCC. Operatives of the Commission arrested Chikeluba in a sting operation on February 24, 2015 in Lagos while attempting to collect a parcel sent to him.
He will appear in court as soon as investigation is concluded

Jega Will go and Heaven Will Not Fall -- Governor Ayo Fayose

Press statement from Ekiti state

Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described outbursts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the possible removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega as "mere comedy," saying; "President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall."
The governor, who said the APC should stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to theparty, added that; "by turning themselves to advocates and defenders of the INEC chairman, the APC and its agents have shown that they have a deal with Jega to manipulate the elections and that the deal will be frustrated if he is asked to leave office."
Governor Fayose said in a release issued on Wednesday, and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that "removal of Jega and any other appointees of the Federal Government is a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed."
He said the position expressed by the House of Representatives was that of the APC members in the House, urging that "the APC lawmakers should rather pay attention to the ill-health of their party's presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), whose whereabouts is now a mystery."
The governor described Jega as partisan, saying; "By his actions and utterances, Jega had already demonstrated his bias in support of the APC. For instance, how can Jega explain the 80 percent distribution of Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Boko Haram ravaged Borno and Yobe States while less than 40 percent distributed in Lagos as at February 7 that the election was postponed?"
He said; "It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure? Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu's removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?"
Speaking further, Governor Fayose said; "it is the president that can determine whether or not Jega will go on the mandatory three months terminal leave which should commence on March 8, and if the president decides that the INEC chairman should go on terminal leave, what can the APC loudmouths do?
"They boasted before the postponement of the elections that they would go on street protests, but did they do anything? They made noise when Justice Isa Ayo Salami was removed from office as president of the Court of Appeal, what did their noise amount to?
"Therefore, let me say it categorically that the noise being made by the APC and their agents will amount to nothing because if the president removes Jega today, heavens will not fall."

Maule was said to have committed the act on Monday, February 23, 2015.
It was gathered that Mr. Samuel, Chinyere's husband, was not always at home due to the nature of his job. Samuel, a Ghanaian by nationality works with a Chinese construction company and hardly returns home to his family.
Our correspondent learnt that Maule allegedly committed the act by sneaking into the couple's apartment during the early hours of the day (5am) at Friends Colony Agungi, Lekki, Lagos.
It was learnt that Chinyere and her children were fast asleep and Maule seized the opportunity to overpower her.
Chinyere was said to have woken up to find Maule on her. She quickly raised the alarm and attracted other neighbours. The incident was said to have caused her emotional and physical damage.
Maule was on Wednesday arraigned before Mrs. O. M. Sanyo of the Lagos Magistrates' Court, Tinubu, Lagos Island on one count of rape. The charge read, "That you, Monday Maule, on February 23, 2015, at Friends Colony, Agungi, Lekki, Lagos did unlawfully and forcefully have carnal knowledge of one Chinyere Samuel without her consent and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 259 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011."
Maule pleaded not guilty and was admitted to bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The magistrate said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.
The matter was adjourned till Monday March 23, 2015, pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

Boko Haram : Surrender or face death, Chadian President warns Shekau

President Idriss Deby
President Idriss Deby of Chad on Wednesday called on Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau, to surrender or face death.
Derby told a news conference in N'djamena, that he knows the whereabouts of Shekau, who, according to him, was sighted in Dikwa , a village in Borno State two days ago.
"Abubakar Shekau must surrender. We know where he is. If he doesn't give himself up he will suffer the same fate as his compatriots," he said.
"He (Shekau) was in Dikwa two days ago. He managed to get away but we know where he is. It's in his interests to surrender," Deby added.
Chadian troops earlier this week liberated the village which is about 85 kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital from Boko Haram.
During a battle for the village, the Chadian soldiers killed over 100 Boko Haram insurgents.
The insurgents were said to have fled to a huge building where they were found inside wardrobes by the troops, who fired volleys of bullets at them.
But in an apparent last act of defiance, a suicide bomber among the fighters climbed into a truck carrying gas canisters and blew it up, killing a Chadian soldier and injuring 34.
A Chadian soldier told a Reuters reporter visiting the town after fighting subsided, that the building was Boko Haram's command centre.
"They came to hide here as we advanced," the soldier said, pointing to the bodies in the wardrobes.
The Chadian army spokesman, Col. Azem Bermandoa, who confirmed the killings, said his men chased those who escaped about 15 kilometres out of the town, where many walls were sprayed with bullets and most houses lay deserted.
According to the report, the Nigerian military had listed Dikwa as one of the towns it wanted to liberate from the insurgents before the general elections.
Chadian forces had planned to take the town last month, but were ordered back by the Nigeria military , which said it planned to attack it.
But a Chadian soldier in Dikwa claimed that the closest Nigerian soldiers got to the town as of the time of the latest development was 50 kilometres.
Abandoned bombs cause stir in Adamawa town
There is apprehension in Gombi, Adamawa State over 30 bombs said to have been dumped in the area by the men of the Nigerian Air Force.
It was gathered that the bombs were dumped three days ago because they had expired and therefore inactive.
Soldiers deployed in the area and vigilante members were said to have surrounded the area out of fear that the weapons could fall into the hands of insurgents.
One of the soldiers however said that they later pulled out of the area when they were alerted that the bombs were inactive.
But an indigene of the community told one of our correspondents that they were not convinced that the bombs would not go off.
He said, "As we are talking, we are still agitated because we are not convinced by the explanation that the bombs are useless and would not be taken away by the Boko Haram for other missions.
"When the items were discovered, the soldiers and our vigilante members were called in but the soldiers left when the Air Force explained that the bombs were expired and useless.
"But the vigilante members have refused to relax their watch over the area because they feel the Boko Haram people could steal and use them against us. We are also of the opinion that the bombs could go off."
The Director, Defence Information, Maj. Gen. Chris Olukolade, could not be reached for comment as calls to his mobile line did not connect.
Meanwhile, only Monguno out of the several communities liberated from Boko Haram over a week remains accessible.
Most of the towns largely remain "a no go area" as the military keep watch over them even as residents that fled in the wake of their capture are still afraid to return.
The Chairman of Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State, Ali Galgal, paid a visit to Monguno on Sunday.
It was gathered that Galgal was in the town to assess the level of destruction that took place during the short reign of the Boko Haram insurgents.
One of those that visited the area with the chairman but who pleaded that his name should not be in print, told one of our correspondents in Maiduguri that "the chairman presented food items to rescued persons."
He added, "Alhaji Galgal urged them to consider what happened to them as part of destiny. He asked them to pray for a lasting peace in Borno State and the country in general.
"The chairman, who went from street to street in Monguno town, found decomposed bodies scattered everywhere. He also found dead bodies in some houses and government structures.
"It was also discovered that the insurgents successful looted many houses and business centres."

The Fear of EFCC made Fani-Kayode leave APC –Tinubu

A former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, says a former Minister of Aviation, Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, left the All Progressives Congress because the party desisted from influencing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to drop the charges against him.
Fani-Kayode, who is the spokesman for the President Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation, is currently standing trial before a High Court in Lagos for alleged money laundering.
However, Tinubu in a statement by his media aide, Mr. Sunday Dare, noted that since Fani-Kayode returned to the Peoples Democratic Party, the case the EFCC had built against him had been weakened as 38 out of the 40 charges had been struck out.
Tinubu said this while reacting to an allegation by Fani-Kayode that within six months of an APC government, Tinubu would order the party's Vice-Presidential candidate, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to step aside, and he (Tinubu) would take control of the Presidency.
He said, "Bola Tinubu helped build the great platform for change; he wholeheartedly supports the APC ticket because he believes it is the last best hope to rescue Nigeria from the disaster Fani-Kayode and his ilk will want to continue.
"I pray Nigerians will not allow them to misgovern us a day past May 29. If Fani-Kayode pretends not to know of Tinubu's efforts to build and support the APC, it comes as no surprise. Fani-Kayode tried before to be part of the party but left when he found out there was no room for his games. Because the APC could not help to free him from the EFCC and the aviation fraud, he ran away to the party that blocked the EFCC on his behalf."
Tinubu said the fact that Jonathan chose Fani-Kayode – who is in court for alleged financial impropriety – to be the image maker of his campaign organisation shows what the PDP stands for.
He urged Fani-Kayode to continue to attack the APC presidential candidate, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as the attacks were making Buhari more popular.
He said, "That Fani-Kayode is the best a ruling party can present as a spokesman speaks volumes about the PDP. They are bereft of talent and character. They are filled with lies and chicanery. Fani-Kayode is simply the worst and most outspoken of a bad lot. However, we welcome his interventions. They are of such low quality and base character. His utterances frighten people but not in the way Fani-Kayode intended.
"Instead of scaring people away from the APC, his work scares people that someone so unfit is so close to the seat of power, someone so unhinged is given free rein to spit bile and call that public discourse. One must wonder who is unbalanced, the misfit or he who hires him. Keep at it Fani-Kayode. Continue!"
The APC leader said Fani-Kayode was known for peddling lies and urged Nigerians not to take him seriously.
The former governor said the fact that Fani-Kayode could cook up such lies showed that the PDP was already imagining defeat.
He said, "Fani-Kayode is not as smart as he thinks. If you read between the lines of his hysteria, you see another extreme sentiment: that of surging desperation. His statement indicates that even he now realises that his paymaster has lost to Buhari/Osinbajo.
"The game is over. The whistle has blown. What the fantasy man seeks to do is change the game. He seeks to run against Tinubu in hopes the outcome will be better. Fani-Kayode now grasps at straws in the night wind."
