Kim Kardashian Is More Influential Than Michelle Obama – Kanye West

Kanye West reckons Kim Kardashian is more influential than Michelle Obama.
The rap star, 36, is convinced Kim deserves to be a Vogue cover girl, especially after a swimwear selfie she Instagrammed two weeks ago.
He said: "There's no way Kim Kardashian shouldn't be on the cover of Vogue. She's like the most intriguing woman right now. She's got Barbara
Walters calling her like everyday.
"And collectively, we're the most influential with clothing," he continued. "No one is looking at what [Barack Obama] is wearing. Michelle Obama cannot
Instagram a [bikini] pic like what my girl
Instagrammed the other day."
The usually-confident star also admitted that he was 'nervous' ahead of his lavish wedding proposal. He explained: "I was nervous. I was talking to her
cousin. I was like, 'I don't know, what do you think she's going to say?' I'm not arrogant about love and feelings at all.
"I'm confident in the work I put so much work in to but this is someone else's feelings. You never know what someone else may feel at the time," he told Ryan Seacrest on his US radio show earlier today.
Meanwhile, Kim has agreed to change her name to Kim Kardashian West.

6 pregnant girls rescued in raid of baby factory

Nigerian police have raided a baby factory in the oil city of
Port Harcourt and arrested a woman accused of harbouring
six pregnant girls, a spokeswoman said Wednesday.
"We rescued six girls last week at different stages of
pregnancy from an illegal maternity home in Port
Harcourt," Joy Elomoko of the Imo State police said.
She said the youngest of the girls was 14, without disclosing
the ages of the others.
"We have also arrested the proprietress of the clinic and she
is assisting us in our investigation," she said.
File photo: Pregnant girls at a baby factory
Elomoko said the raid on the Port Harcourt home followed
the arrest of a girl with a baby in nearby Owerri on October
15.
"A lady was found in suspicious circumstances with a day
old baby and after interrogation she confessed that she gave
birth to a baby in Port Harcourt," the police spokeswoman
said.
Elomoko said police detectives followed the girl to Port
Harcourt where six expectant mothers were found in a clinic
run by a woman.
"The woman could not produce any document authorising
her to operate the clinic and she was subsequently arrested,"
she said.
She said the girls also told police that they were being kept
in the home to make babies which would be sold to willing
buyers.
Elomoko said the suspect would be taken to court after
police investigation.
Nigerian police have uncovered a series of alleged baby
factories in recent years, notably in the southeastern part of
the country. Baby boys can sell for a price of around $250
(180 euros), baby girls for slightly less.
Human trafficking, including the selling of children, is the
third most common crime in Nigeria behind fraud and drug
trafficking, according to the United Nations

Severed head of Brazilian footballer discovered in a bag on his front doorstep

Police in Brazil have launched a manhunt after the severed
head of a former professional footballer was left on the
doorstep of his home. The horrified wife of Joao Rodrigo
Silva Santos, 35, made the gruesome discovery as she left
the house in Rio de Janeiro for work early yesterday
morning.
The player's eyes and tongue had been cut out and his head
placed inside one of his own rucksacks, police said. Mr
Santos retired from football two years ago after a
successful career playing for several teams in Rio de
Janeiro, as well as for clubs in Sweden and Honduras.
He had recently set up his own business selling health foods
and dietary supplements. Continue...
Police said today that Mr Santos is believed to have been
snatched from outside the shop he had opened in the
Realengo district of Rio as he closed up at around 7.45pm
on Monday.
Witnesses said they saw several men bundling him into his
car, a Hyundai i30, and speeding off just before midnight,
a spokesman said. He was reported missing by his wife at
9pm on Monday.
Mr Santos' brother-in-law, who didn't want to be named,
told Brazil's Globo G1 website that the player's wife, Geisa
Silva, 31, stayed up all night after her husband failed to
arrive home.
He said: 'Every time a car passed by she would go to see.
'She was getting ready to go to work at around 5.30am
when she heard a noise, opened the front door and saw his
rucksack.
'When she opened it she discovered it contained his head.
'I did not want to look but the people who saw it said they
had gouged out his eyes and cut off his tongue,' said the
horrified relative.
Neighbours living close to the crime scene reported hearing
a woman screaming: 'My God, it's Joao! It's Joao's head.'
From what I know, he didn't have any enemies and neither
did his wife,' the relative added. In a statement Mr Santos'
widow said the couple had not been subjected to any
threats.
Lead murder investigator Rafael Rangel from the 14th
Military Police Battalion (BPM) in Rio, said witnesses saw
armed men kidnap the businessman. 'We believe that the
people who took him knew the family's routine,' said
Rangel.
Investigators are working on the hypothesis that Mr Santos
could have been murdered by a drugs gang because of Mrs
Silva's work at a military police base in a local slum.
The Police Pacification Unit in the Morro do Sao Carlos is
one of dozens set up in Rio's favelas to retake control of
the city's slums from violent drug traffickers.
However, according to police chief Rafael Rangel, Mrs
Silva worked as a social worker in the base and didn't
patrol the streets or make arrests like other police officers.
He told Brazil's O Dia newspaper the motives of the
murder are still unclear.
He said: 'Mrs Silva has no idea who would have done this.
Neither she, her husband or any other member of the
family have suffered any type of threat as far as she knows.
'There is nothing that would justify such a barbarous
crime.'
Santos did not have a police record.
Later today Brazilian police said body parts dumped beside
a city river were believed to be those of Mr Santos.
The player's brother-in-law told Brazil's Globo G1 website
that family members had positively identified a torso found
next to the Guandu river in Queimados, greater Rio de
Janeiro, by a birth mark on Mr Santos' stomach.
A police spokesman said other body parts had also been
found in the area and were being DNA tested.
He said the murder bears the hallmarks of an execution by
drug gangsters, but stressed that "every line of
investigation" is still open.
The couple had been together for 11 years and were
described as 'lovely' by neighbours.
'They were a happy, quiet couple,' said a neighbour, who
asked not to be identified. 'But you never know what may
have motivated a crime as stupid and as senseless as this.'
Mr Santos' played as a professional footballer between
1996 and 2005 - during which he scored 33 goals in 103
matches as a striker. Nicknamed Humble Hero, he was
signed to a number of second division teams. He also
played abroad for Swedish Club Oster Vaxjo and Olimpia
in Honduras.
A recent United Nations report into drug trafficking-related
crime in Brazil found that more than half of the homicides,
robberies and thefts have a direct or indirect link with this
criminal activity.

Do you need a flat tummy then read this tips

The stomach area is a trouble spot for many people
because that is where most people gather fat. If you
have this challenge too, follow these tips today to get a
flatter tummy.
1, Drink Water:
It sounds very simple but water is essential for keeping
your stomach flat. Drinking a lot of water helps your
body digest your food fast and wash out any excess
quickly. Water flushes out your system so there's less
residue to be stored as fat. Not drinking enough water
can lead to bloating which makes your belly appear
bigger than it really is.
2, Reduce Salt Intake:
Too much salt is toxic to the system and this is why our
bodies excrete it in sweat. Salt causes water retention
which can cause a big belly.
According to experts, reducing your salt intake will
help your body release water it has been retaining to
help dilute high salt levels in your body. Cut down on
your salt intake to help prevent a bloated tummy.
3, Don't Rush Your Food:
Make sure you slow down and sit down at all
mealtimes. It will help you relax and focus on what you
are eating. And make sure you mind your manners.
Eating with your mouth closed, and not talking while
you are chewing, will reduce the amount of air that
would otherwise get trapped in your stomach making it
bigger.
4, Laugh Out Loud:
Laughing is a fantastic and fun way to tone up your
abdominal muscles. Every time you have a good laugh,
you are helping to strengthen your stomach muscles and
having fun too.
5, Drink Green Tea:
Research has shown a direct link between green tea and
smaller waists. Green tea contains compounds called
catechins, which increase the release of fat from fat
cells, help boost energy expenditure and speed up the
burning of fat by the liver which means less fat for
your stomach to store.
6, Exercise:
To get rid of the fat making your stomach big, you
need exercise. Do sit ups and pull ups. Push ups are
good too. Also do cardio exercises like walking,
jogging and swimming. They are very effective for fat
burning.
7, Smaller Portions:
Eating big portions of food at a go expands your
stomach muscles and makes your tummy big. Instead
spread your daily intake into about 5 meals with smaller
portions. This will keep your stomach in shape.
8, Don't Eat Late:
Eating late is one of the biggest causes of a big belly.
This is because your body doesn't have enough time to
digest the body before you go to sleep so most of it is
stored as fat. The ideal time to stop eating is 7pm but if
you have to eat late, make sure you eat just a little food
and no carbohydrates.
Follow these tips today and watch your tummy shrink
fast!

“No Airport In Nigeria Is Fully Certified” – NCAA

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) says no
airport in the country is fully certified.
At a senate public hearing on recent developments in the
nation's aviation sector, the Director of Aerodrome in the
Agency, Mr Joyce Nkemakolam also added that over 25
airlines have been registered for operation in the country.
The public hearing also revealed that one of the airlines has
a plane that is 43 years old.
According to investigation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation
Authority (NCAA) is yet to certify any of the 22 airports in
the country because the airports have been unable to meet
the requirements on the regulator's checklist particularly in
the area of security and safety in the last 20 years. The
NCAA has never certified any airport in the country since
2006, when the law that gave it autonomy to certify airports
in line with international regulations was promulgated and
none of the airports in the country was certified before
NCAA's autonomy.
The security aspect has to do with control of access to the
airport's sterile areas or airside and the security of other
major points like the catering departments, boarding gates,
check-in points and perimeter fencing. The safety aspect, on
the other hand, has to do with runway light, taxi way light,
approach light, fire station and airport emergency response
system, among others.
The essence of airport certification is to ascertain if there
are enough personnel and equipment that can guarantee
safety and security in any airport. But it was gathered that
though the airports in the country had been given the
checklist applicable globally, the Federal Airports Authority
of Nigeria was yet to comply with the requirements on the
checklist, especially the 'open items.'

Eating sweets can make you forgetful -Study

BAD news if you've got a sweet tooth - eating too many
sweets could make you forgetful.
Researchers have found that maintaining low sugar levels in
the blood is good for the brain.
The study, published in the journal Neurology, showed
people with too much sugar in their blood were more likely
to have memory problems.
Researchers looked at 141 people with an average age of 63
who did not have diabetes or pre-diabetes.
Those with less sugar in their blood were more likely to
score well on memory tests.
The researchers found that people with high levels of sugar
in their blood were less able to recall a list of 15 words 30
minutes after hearing them.
An increase of about seven mmol/mol of a long-term
marker of glucose control called HbA1c went along with
remembering two fewer words.
Dr Agnes Floel, of Charite University Hospital in Berlin,
said: 'These results suggest even for people within the
normal range of blood sugar lowering their blood sugar
levels could be a promising strategy for preventing memory
problems and cognitive decline as they age.
'Strategies such as lowering calorie intake and increasing
physical activity should be tested.'
Volunteers who were overweight, who drank more than
three-and-a-half servings of alcohol per day and who had
memory and thinking problems were ruled out before the
study started.
The participants' memory skills were then tested along with
their blood glucose levels.
Participants also had brain scans to measure the size of their
hippocampus.
Dr Clare Walton, research communications manager for the
Alzheimer's Society, said: 'We already know that type 2
diabetes is a risk factor for developing Alzheimer's disease,
but this new study suggests that higher blood sugar levels
may also be linked to poor memory in people without
diabetes.
'The research suggests that regulating blood sugar levels
might be a way to improve people's memory, even if they
don't have diabetes.
'However, before people without diabetes consider changing
their diets or taking medication, more research is needed to
test this theory. One in three people over 65 will develop
dementia so investing in research like this is vital.'

Mysterious figures at Chelsea stadium

A bit of news from the world of football...:-). 11 strange
men in black robes (can you spot them in the pic above?)
caused a stir at Chelsea's Stamford Bridge yesterday Sunday
October 27th during the Chelsea vs Manchester City clash.
Goal.com reports that the hooded men, who had mysterious
circles on their chest, were seen making curious
synchronised movements at irregular intervals during
Chelsea's 2-1 win, while they also stood in unison at
random moments.
Situated three rows back from the corner flag at the Shed
End, the gang could be clearly seen on TV cameras
beaming pictures of the crunch fixture all across the world.
One Chelsea fan sat close to the mysterious guests was
Robin Taylor, who said afterwards that he was slightly
perturbed by their presence.
"We're used to a few different characters down at Chelsea,
there was once even a guy brushing his teeth behind the
bench at a game, but we've had nothing quite like this
before," he said.

BankyW Tells His Story: I Sold My CD’s At Salons To Survive

Banky W may be a household name now, but he wasn't
always. There was a time the singer was broke, struggling
and unsure of success. Read his story below.
Excerpts:
"Everybody knows me to be the Chief Executive Officer,
CEO, of EME, but what people do not know is that EME
started when I was in my third year in university in New
York.
You see, we all dream dreams, but it is important to think
very big and start where you are because God never gives
you everything but gives you enough to start.
At that time, I knew I wanted to do music, but of course I
understood nobody starts by selling a million CDs or the big
screen!
I worked in fast foods outlets, clothing stores and as a knife
salesman, selling knives from door to door. That way, I
gathered money to pay for studio recording time. I was
recording with a close friend at that time.
After making that music, we printed a thousand CDs though
we didn't have any fan. I had one battered car that broke
down virtually everywhere, so, we would print black and
white posters, stick them on the sides of the car, sell from
the car's trunk and drive to salons to do marketing.
We would walk to the owners of the salons, greet politely,
and ask them to let us entertain their customers. Sometimes,
some would kick us out and sometimes some would say yes.
If told yes, after singing for a minute or two, we would sell
our CDs to the customers! That was the beginning!
A lot of people see you on stage and see the success but do
not know what you had to go through! I never had one
really big break; it was always two steps forward and a
couple backwards.
But I just decided that I was going to make music work for
me. That was why I moved on to a new salon each time any
salon rejected me!
I just kept going because I believe failure is when you give
up. Albert Einstein said he tried a hundred times to make
the light bulb. When he was asked what kept him going
during the 99 times, he said: 'I didn't consider those 99
times as failure; rather, I considered them 99 ways that it
didn't work!'
We went about selling CDs and, on the days we couldn't
sell much, we would sit down and be broke together. I
remember my friend was a member of a church that usually
served food after service. So, on the days we didn't sell
CDs and were too broke to buy food, we would attend
service in that church so we could pack rice and store in the
fridge.
At a point, being a student of industrial engineering, I was
working for an engineering company and was recording as
well. I would go to work from 7am till about 2pm and then
go to school till about 8pm, and then drive two and a half
hours to New York City where the studio that would let us
record for less was, and record until about 2am.
I would then drive two and a half hours back home to be
back at work at 7am the following day.
One day, I was driving home from work and was so tired
that I fell asleep while on a bridge. I would have driven off
from the top of the bridge to God knows where, if not for
an on-going construction work. God really saved me!"
After a while, Banky's hard work began to pay off and,
even while in school, he began winning awards, beginning
with the 'Albany Idol' competition. Other international
awards soon followed.
In 2008 when he decided to move to Nigeria after the
completion of one of his albums, Mr Capable, Banky was
consistently told his genre of music 'would never appeal to
Nigerians and therefore wouldn't 'sell'.
As he got turned down, pressure mounted on him and his
manager to change their genre of music but Banky strongly
held on to another long-standing principle which had taught
him to stand out by being unique rather than trying to
imitate anyone's skill.
He therefore insisted on sticking to R&B, and this paid-off
as he soon became a household name in the Nigerian
entertainment industry!
Banky's advice:
"You cannot say enough about the grace of God and I
therefore do not want to claim any form of glory. Falling
down is inevitable but getting back up is optional!
Frankly, you can't appreciate sunshine if you've never been
through a heavy rain. Yes, life is tough, but what do you do
in those tough moments?
Do you learn the lesson, stand up again, consider yourself
stronger and keep going? Or do you sit down and feel sorry
for yourself?
The graveyard, they say, is the richest place in the world
because therein lies so many who died with their dreams.
So, my advice is, do not give up! If Banky can be where he
is today, you can be where you want to be if you put to
mind to it."

Nigerian Army Promises Safe Passage For Repentant Boko Haram Militants

The 21 Armoured Brigade of the Nigerian Army in
Maiduguri on Sunday said it had introduced new
measures to counter Boko Haram attacks on civilians in
the state.
The acting Commander of the brigade, Col. Ibrahim
Yusuf, made the disclosure at a news conference in
Maiduguri.
He said "I want to assure you that the army is doing
everything possible to ensure that no civilian is attacked
by Boko Haram in the state because we are here to
ensure the safety of all Nigerians".
He linked the recent attacks on travelers and villagers
by suspected Boko Haram militants on highways to
frustration.
The acting commander said "most times, the Boko
Haram members go to remote villages to kill innocent
civilians in cold blood because they have been
frustrated by the army.
"They cannot operate in the open, so they vent their
anger on innocent civilians".
Yusuf, who said that the military was equal to the task,
noted that "we cannot be taken by surprise by the Boko
Haram, the recent attacks are nothing but signs of
weakness.
"We are also evolving strategies to make sure that we
prevent future attacks, no matter how small".
He said the army was willing to give safe passage to
members of the sect who wanted to quit.
"I want to assure you that we will give a safe passage to
members of the sect, including foot soldiers who are
ready to surrender.
"Those involved can either surrender themselves at any
military out-post or go to their ward or district head.
"Let me say again that all those who surrendered will
not be killed but will be given safe passage", he said.

“I Love S*xy Girls. They Scream When I Perform” – Sean Tizzle Gets Personal

As early as late last year, the act known as Sean Tizzle (Morihanfen Oluwaseun Oluwabamidele) was
little known. However, he would go down in history as one of the music revelations of 2013.
Within a few months of the release of his single, ShoLee, he has been transformed from nobody into one of Nigeria's fastest rising music acts and now he says he is
set to take the industry by storm.
In a recent interview he opens up about his successes and his private life.
"I faced a lot of challenges trying to get a record deal. Playing free gigs was a normal thing for me.
Sometimes I even paid to perform in shows but I think it comes with the terrain. Even right now, I'm still facing lots of challenges. Though, there was no time I felt like walking away from music, the experience could be frustrating. There were times I
was stranded and had to beg people for money on the streets just to make it to the studio for a recording.
"I remember the first time my record label, D Tunes called me up for a recording. I did not have a dime on me because I was stark broke. I had to beg for money on the road but nobody was willing to assist me,"
He talks about the success of his first single Sho Lee "Sho Lee means it is hard in Yoruba and Ko lee means it's not hard. The message is for all the sexy girls out there who are pretending and 'forming' to
be what they are not. A lot of girls are not true to themselves. They think they are what they are not but at the end of the day, when you probe them, you discover that they are shallow. But I still love and
respect them; I love sexy girls. They scream when I perform. I remember being at Elegushi Beach at the very beginning to promote Sho Lee. After my performance, there was this lady who was all over me. She just pounced on me and gave me the kiss of my life screaming, 'I love your music.'! That was when I knew I was finally getting there" When asked if he has a woman in his life, he says, "No, not for now. I'm married to my music. I am a
one-man Mopol and I'm not in any relationship. My ideal woman must be beautiful, shapely, sexy and
intelligent, and above all, she must have the fear of God."
What do you think of his music? Are you a fan?

Brymo To Pay N22M Or Remain At Chocolate City Till 2016

Contrary to the news circulating in the early hours of
today that Chocolate City didn't get an injunction
against Brymo's Merchants, Dealers and Slaves album
and also stopping him from further recording tracks
that might be released to be promoted.
Brymo said and I quote – "Pls disregard any news
about an injunction on my new album M,D&S, it's all
untrue.. Just a ploy to disrupt my release as usual.."
A source at the Chocolate City re-affirmed that there is
indeed an injunction against Brymo and any plan he
has till he fulfills his contract with Choc city. Our
source also told NaijaMp3s that Brymo has 2 albums
left in his contract with Chocolate City which expires
in 2016.
Brymo has been served the injunction notice and he is
now wanted by the court for compromising his contract
with the recording company.
The law firm consulting for Chocolate City have also
included a buyout clause for Brymo which is set at 22
Million Naira. Brymo has been asked to play out his
contract with Choc city or simple just activate the
buyout clause of 22million Naira which was also
confirmed by our source at chocolate city who
confirms Choc city boss, Audu agreed to, in order to
resolve the issue.
When we asked our source why Jesse Jagz wasn't
served an injunction when he released his "Thine
kingdom Come" album was released; NaijaMp3s was
told that Jesse's contract with Chocolate city was over
and it was easy for Jesse Jagz to quit the label without
any problem.
It should be recalled that during Brymo's press
conference he told reporters that his lawyers couldn't
get him out of the problem he was in with Chocolate
city and that was why he had to come out to the public.
We hope this doesn't get escalated than it already has
and hopefully Chocolate City and Brymo would settle
their differences so we can all enjoy good music that
Brymo provides us with.

Photos: Eight Year Old Boy Takes 61-Year Old Mother Of Five As ‘Wife’

An unusual wedding ceremony between an eight-year
old boy and 61-year old woman took place weekend in
Tshwane, South Africa with close to 100 people in
attendance.
Sanele Masilela (8) and Helen Shabangu (61) had their
families present at the union – the bride's husband and
her five children were also at the wedding.
Explaining why the wedding took place, Sanele's aunt,
Patience Masilela (46), said: "The boy was named after
his late grandfather who never had a white wedding, so
the ancestors told the boy to get married and he chose
Helen to be his bride. The family took his desire to get
married very seriously. They paid for the bride in
March last year and spent a lot on the wedding because
they believed it was what the ancestors wanted."
The bride who was visibly excited, stated: "I'm married
and have five kids of my own, but I know that this is
what the ancestors wanted, and now they are happy. it
is a ritual. we are just playing now, but it is a sign that
he will get married one day".
Sanele who stated his desire to continue his education
explained the reason behind the wedding thus: "I told
my mother that I wanted to get married because I really

ASUU STRIKE: NLC Threatens Nationwide Strike

The leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress has
threatened to call a nationwide industrial action if
the Federal Government fails to stop the ongoing
strike by university lecturers under the banner of
the Academic Staff Union of Universities.
The NLC, in a communiqué issued at the end of its
National Executive Committee meeting in Kaduna on
Wednesday, said it was unfortunate that the
government had not taken the expected steps to stop
the ongoing strike that has crippled academic activities
in public universities across the country.
The President of the NLC, Mr. Abdulwahed Omar, and
the Acting General Secretary of the Congress, Mr.
Chris Uyot, accused the Federal Government of
sponsoring protests against ASUU instead of resolving
the lingering crisis.
The union warned that the NLC would not hesitate to
call out Nigerian workers to protest across the
country if the present situation was not resolved by the
Federal Government.
Omar and Uyot also stated that the NLC had taken a
decision to intervene in the crisis rocking the university
system in order to save Nigerian students from been
traumatised by the strike.

Bad governance behind poverty in Nigeria -Dr Oby Ezekwesili

A former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, has
attributed the rising poverty in Nigeria to poor governance
and the monotonous economic structure of the country.
Ezekwesili described the country as an African paradox
with the land rich in natural resources but a large percentage
of her citizens poor.
The former World Bank Vice President for Africa said bad
governance, which had manifested through corruption, was
responsible for the poor economic performance of the
country.
Ezekwesili, who spoke on Tuesday at the opening ceremony
of the 2013 Port Harcourt Book Festival in the Rivers State
capital, observed that Nigeria had been unable to translate
the huge natural resources at her disposal to the
improvement of her citizens' living standard.
She said that 69 percent of over 100 million Nigerians were
living within the poverty bracket
She said, "Nigeria is perhaps the best known example of the
African paradox. It is a country which has struggled with
the development process over the last 53 years of her
independence.
"As the 6th largest producer of oil in the world, it has
earned more than half a trillion dollars in oil export since
the discovery of that commodity in the South-South region
of this country where we are gathered today.
"Unfortunately, the massive revenue from oil has been a
source of enormous sorrow to citizens due to poor
government by our political elite over the many decades
since its discovery."
The ex-minister added, "Nigeria has therefore tragically
failed to translate her rich resource endowment to
improvement in the standard of living of her citizens hence
we today have 69 percent of over 100 million of our
citizens in the poverty bracket, according to the latest data
from the National Bureau of Statistics.
"The poor governance or its more virulent manifestation,
public corruption, is of course the fundamental reason for
Nigeria's poor economic performance despite our globally
acknowledged economic potentials to have become not just
one of the largest economies of the world, but in fact, one
of the most prosperous of those countries.
"There is no better saying of the governance failure in our
nation than the relatively unchanged structure of the
economy of Nigeria since our independence; and it is the
rapid change of the structure of an economy that determines
the level of economic growth, development and prosperity
that would happen. In our case, it has remained relatively
unchanged."
Ezekwesili lamented that while Asian economies had
experienced significant growth in economic prosperity,
countries in Africa had failed to develop economically.
She expressed the need for African countries to search for
other sources of development in order to improve the poor.
"At 48 percent of the continent's population surviving on a
mere $1.25 a meal, it is urgent that the economies of Africa
should find new sources of growth to the present crop of the
poor," Ezekwesili added.
Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi said his
administration would soon construct a N3bn administrative
village.
"We are building a Creative Village at present and it is
going to cost N3bn. In the village, there will be a public
library, a theatre and a cafe, among other facilities," he
said.
Amaechi said the public library was part of the
government's effort to promote the reading culture in Rivers
State, adding that Shell has promised to contribute to the
funding of the project.

Oduah's N225m armoured cars: EFCC begins probe

STRONG indications emerged on Monday that the
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has
commenced an investigation into the controversial
customised cars purchased by the embattled Minister of
Aviation, Stella Oduah.
Spokesperson of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, neither
confirmed nor denied the development.
He told the Nigerian Tribune that it was not a part of the
commission's ethics and ethos to talk about ongoing alleged
corruption investigation.
When asked to confirm if the probe had commenced, he
retorted "which probe? You should know that the
commission does not talk about what it is doing in the
public."
A top system source, however, revealed that the commission
had started beaming its searchlight on the issues raised over
the controversial purchase, but would be too early to say
anyone was guilty.
The source added that it was an automatic process for the
commission, once a public officer was mentioned in any
alleged fraud, adding that Oduah's case was not different
from others which had gone through the same process in the
past.
It was further gathered that the ongoing probe was triggered
immediately issues of corruption came into the purchase,
with the source reminding that the commission did not need
petitions to commence probe.
The source added that what the commission would be doing
for now was gathering information on the matter and send
same to the legal department to determine whether a prima
facie case of corruption had been established.
Until then, according to the source, any actions taken
against the minister would be premature.
"Until the legal department advises that the case is ok for
court, nothing could be done, despite the clamour by
Nigerians asking the commission to act," the source said.
Mass sack looms in NCAA
PALPABLE fear has enveloped the Nigerian Civil Aviation
Authority (NCAA) premises, over the news of an imminent
mass sack of workers by the present management.
The sack may not be unconnected with the recent leakage of
a confidential information on the transaction deal entered
into by the regulatory agency to buy two security armoured
cars for the Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah, at a sum of
N255 million.
Since the whistle was blown open by an online publication,
many Nigerians had reacted angrily to it, describing the
amount involved as outrageous and fraudulent.
Many had even called for the removal of the minister on the
ground that the decision to buy such expensive security cars
for her contradicted the accidents the sector had recorded in
the recent past.
Beside this, those calling for the minister's head also
attributed their positions to the fact that the regulatory
agency that purchased the armoured cars were currently in a
financial predicament that they could no longer send their
technical staff out for trainings.
Following the embarrassment the revelation of the
controversial deal had caused the Federal Government, the
Director-General of NCAA, Captain Folashade Akinkuotu,
had announced plans to launch an investigation to unravel
those behind the leakage of the official information.
Akinkuotu, while speaking at a press conference in Abuja,
described the information leakage as criminal, saying the
action posed danger to a sensitive government agency like
the NCAA.
The declaration of the NCAA boss to set up a committee to
probe the leakage had created tension within the agency, as
workers who spoke under anonymity, expressed the fear
that the management may use the opportunity to sack
innocent people or those they found not loyal.
It was also gathered that the sack may be extended to other
aviation parastatal agencies where some key people may be
included.
The looming sack, if eventually carried out, may create
more tension in the sector, as it may be interpreted to mean
intimidation.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the regulatory body to
observe the mood of the workers, on Monday, the
atmosphere was tensed, even as the workers went about
their jobs with suspicion and uncertainty.
Falana calls for documents
LAGOS-based lawyer and activist, Mr Femi Falana, on
Monday, asked the Managing Director of the Nigerian Civil
Aviation Authority (NCAA), Captain Folashade Akinkuotu,
to produce the certified true copies of the documents
relating to the purchase of the controversial N255million
armoured cars, including budgetary approval and due
process for the entire transaction within the next seven days.
Falana made the demand under the Freedom of Information
(FOI) Act, in a letter dated October 21, 2013, entitled:
"Request For Information On N225 million Amoured Cars
For Aviation Minister, Ms Stella Oduah."
Falana, in the letter signed on his behalf by Adedotun Isola-
Osobu, threatened to initiate legal proceedings against the
NCAA boss if he failed to accede to his request within the
time stipulated.
The request by Falana for the information on the
controversial purchase of the N255 million armoured cars
was sequel to a media briefing addressed on the matter by
the NCAA boss in Abuja, on Friday.
"In your press conference in Abuja on Friday, October 18,
you did admit that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority
(NCAA) actually bought the controversial armoured cars
and that it is customary to convey the minister and visiting
dignitaries in security vehicles whenever they are in
Nigeria.
"In the light of your claim at the said press conference, we
are compelled to request you to make available to us
certified true copies of the documents relating to the
purchase of the cars, including budgetary approval and due
process for the entire transaction.
"Since you claimed that it is customary to purchase such
cars for aviation minister and visiting foreign dignitaries,
you are also requested to provide the records of previous
purchase of armoured cars by the Aviation Ministry or the
NCAA.
"Take notice that you are mandatorily required to supply
the requested information within seven days of the receipt
of this letter by virtue of the provisions of the Freedom of
Information Act, 2011," part of the letter read.

Ailing veteran actor Pa Kasumu gradually losing his voice and sight

Ailing veteran actor, Kayode Odumosu aka Pa Kasumu's
state of health has deteriorated. Encomium magazine reports
that he now has a high level of hypertension and has also
developed an advanced cerebrovascular disease, a medical
condition that is related to brain dysfunction which affects
the blood vessels that transports blood to the brain. This
new development has impaired his memory as well as
gradually eroding his speech. He is also gradually losing the
vision in his left eye.
Niece to the veteran actor and coordinator of the Save Pa
Kasumu Group, Mrs Idowu Olajide, spoke on the recent

"As it is now, the situation is very disturbing. He has lost
his voice but we believe with God, all things are possible.
Governor Fashola directed him to First Cardiologist
Hospital Ikoyi and the result from the test has been sent to
him. We really appreciate the governor's step, it's in the
right direction. But he hasn't said he would give Pa
Kasumu N12million as been peddled and we have not
received any money from him. So, we are still appealing
to all the good-hearted Nigerians to come to the aid of Pa
Kasumu because weather or not he is flown abroad, the

ASUU dismisses Jonathan’s appeal over strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has turned down
President Goodluck Jonathan's plea for the lecturers to
end their 114-day-old strike.
The Chairman of ASUU at the Obafemi Awolowo
University, Ile Ife, Prof. Adegbola Akinola, and his
University of Ibadan chapter counterpart, Dr. Olusegun
Ajiboye, said university teachers would only return to the
classrooms if the government honoured the 2009 agreement
it entered into with them.
They spoke just as the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi
Okonjo-Iweala, berated the union, saying it had taken
unionism to an all time low.
Cross section of stakeholders at a meeting to review the
ongoing strike by ASUU held at the Trenchard Hall of the
University of Ibadan on Monday. Photo: Vanguard.
But Akinola told journalists during a rally staged by
members of the union in Ile-Ife on Monday, that Jonathan
needed not beg for the strike to be called off.
He said, "ASUU does not need any plea from Mr. President.
We are not asking for impossible things. The Federal
Government reached an agreement with us and we are
asking them to honour it. It is so simple.
"Government should be honourable. Is it honourable not to
honour an agreement? Certainly no. The Federal
Government should not allow the public universities to
continue to degenerate. Posterity will not forgive us if we
allow public universities to totally collapse.
"Our country has the resources to honour the agreement but
education is not given priority.
"The Minister of Aviation (Mrs Stella Oduah) just got
two bulletproof cars bought for N255m by an agency under
her supervision. So, who do you want to tell that this
country does not have the resources?
"We won't allow public universities to be destroyed. That is
why they are establishing private universities all over the
country with the nation's money. Except those owned by
the missionaries, tell me which of the private universities
was not established with the nation's resources?"
Akinola said that infrastructure were decaying in public
universities because of the neglect they had suffered.
He explained that the strike was not about members of the
union but a means to force the government to do the right
things.
The ASUU chief warned that children from poor homes
might no longer have access to university education if the
union should succumb to the blackmail being employed
against it by the government.
Also Ajiboye said at a town hall meeting and presentation of
the National Economic Empowerment Development
Strategy assessment report to clerics , civil society, labour
and students at the Trenchard Hall, UI on Monday, that
Jonathan's plea would not make ASUU end the strike.
He said, "Will the President be quiet if his children are in
one of our public institutions and be at home for four
months? Does he care about the future of the country while
the children of the masses in public institutions have been
asking their leader to be more sensitive and patriotic enough
to public institutions?
"How many years of appeal will make the President
implement a four-year-old agreement? The truth is that we
are tired of appeals. We need action .
"In ASUU, our belief is that today's event will shape the
future. We cannot live on appeal while the children of the
rich use public funds to study abroad and even make use of
government scholarship scheme."
However, about 200 heavily armed policemen on Monday
stopped members of ASUU from carrying out an
enlightenment walk on the strike in Calabar, Cross River
State.
The walk was organised by the University of Calabar and
Cross River State University of Technology branches of
ASUU.
It was to take off from the UNICAL gate at 7am through
some streets of Calabar, but the policemen ensured the union
members did not leave the gate of the institution.
They said they were acting on "orders from above."
The Chairman ASUU, UNICAL branch, Dr. James
Okpiliya, said, "Our union is law- abiding. We wrote to the
police and other security agencies on our intention of
walking the streets in pursuance of our cause to put the
records straight.
"Many groups have been walking the streets giving people
the wrong impression about the situation. We just want to
put the records straight. The police are telling us that they
have orders from above not let us walk the streets of
Calabar. It is a shame. You can all see the hypocrisy of
government.
"They allowed youths and market women but they would
not let us do the same. We would remain resolute. No
amount of provocation would stop us.
"We are not on strike because of our salaries. We are
fighting for our students and the terrible conditions of our
universities. Most of our science students do not know the
difference between a Bunsen burner and a stove. They don't
even know the chemicals.
"The Tertiary Education Trust Fund today has become a
main funding source of our universities, but this is not to be
so. TETFUND is only an intervention agency. Government
has bailed out banks and even Nollywood, but not our
universities.
"The strike would continue as long as the government
remains adamant. The President said after all, the strike in
Ghana lasted two years; so that means this one could
continue even up to five years."
The Chairman of ASUU, CRUTECH branch, Dr Nsing
Ogar, said the Federal Government must honour the 2009
agreement.
But university administrators in the country on Monday
expressed concern over the strike and appealed to both
ASUU and the Federal Government to urgently reach a
compromise on the issue.
The National President of the Association of Nigerian
University Professional Administrators, Mr. Samuel
Mwansat, made this appeal at the ongoing annual retreat of
the National Council Members of the association at the Tai
Solarin University of Education, Ijagun in Ogun State.
He stressed that the current disagreement between ASUU
and the government required "understanding."
In Abuja, Okonjo-Iweala, accused ASUU of taking
unionism to an all time low with its latest approach to the
strike.
She accused the union of introducing politics to the
strike through the distribution of "flyers riddled with lies
in mosques in the North."
The minister, in a statement by her Special Adviser, Paul
Nwabuikwu, said contrary to the position being spread by
ASUU, she had not taken a "take-it-or-leave-it approach" to
the face-off between the union and government.
She claimed that it was ASUU that had taken such an
approach, saying no government had been as responsive
to the demands of the striking lecturers as that of Jonathan.
The statement reads in part, "Contrary to some recent
media reports, the Federal Government has not adopted a
take-it-or-leave-it approach in its negotiations with ASUU.
Rather, the approach is focused on positive engagement and
achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges facing
higher education in the country.
"That is why President Jonathan recently appealed to
ASUU to respond to government's positive steps by calling
off its strike in the interest of suffering students and parents.
"Despite this, for several days now, some elements in ASUU
have been distributing pamphlets and flyers with abusive
and inflammatory messages against Dr. Okonjo-Iweala in
mosques and other places. This is taking academic unionism
to a new low and infusing it with unnecessary politics. I am
sure majority of ASUU members are not in support of this."
She said the government was working hard to seek
practical and sustainable solutions to the challenges facing
higher education in the country.
According to her, " The President has made available
N100bn a year in the first instance to repair hostels,
laboratories and classrooms and other facilities in the
universities.
"An offer of N30bn has also been made to ASUU towards
the earned allowances of its members."

Why I dumped P Square – May D

He is a fluke. He won't last. Indeed, not many gave much chance to Akinmayokun Awodumila otherwise known as May D after his brilliant cameo in the 2011 monster hit song Chop My Money and Do I As I Do by popular hip hop duo, P Square. The thinking was that he rode on the success of Africa's most popular twins to
fame and stardom. For an appetizer, Mr. May D released his first set of
singles including "Ile Ijo" and "Cool Temper." The result was instantaneous and swayed even his toughest skeptic. Between then and now, the singer cemented a
place on the music scene with the release of an album entitled Chapter One. His debut parades hits including "Sound Track," "Gat Me High" and "Many Things"
among others.
One of the biggest career challenges came early this year when relationship broke down between the singer
and PSquare. That was his first real test. Sunday
Express caught up recently with the singer and he
opened up on his solo experience in the music
wilderness, his new experience as a father and his future
plans with his Baby Mama among other interesting
issues.
Congratulations on your baby boy, please share
with us your fatherhood experience
Fatherhood is something I'm just getting into. I'm just
getting to know what it is, so if I'm tell you what it is
like, I'm just lying to you. I'm still learning.
With your busy schedule as a singer, how do you
make out time to spend with your son?
I'm always with my son when I'm not performing on
stage or recording in the studio. I try to spend good
time with my son.
What plans do you have to settle down in marriage?
Haa…I don't know yet but very soon. I will let you
know when I'm set for marriage.
Many people thought that you won't recover from
your shocking split from PSquare's Square
Records?
I thank God that didn't happen. I've been waxing
strong by the grace of God. I have my own record label
now.
So, why a record label so soon?
Basically, there is no time now and I don't think that it
was not so soon by the way. It was around this time last
year. My reason for having a record label was just to
get an organized body to handle my music business. It's
no more a joke. It is now something that I make my
living from, so why don't I just establish myself by
getting a label that will keep records of what is
happening? Music is serious business. It involves a
whole lot of things. One can't do it all alone. One needs
people.
But what influenced your choice of setting up your own
label instead of joining another label?
I would have signed a new deal when I fell out with
Square Records because I had a whole lot of offers
from too many people that I can't count. But why I
decided to just stay on my own was because I don't
know why I would leave one of the biggest acts in
Africa and then decide to go with just anyone. So I just
decided to stand up on my own. I guess there is
something about me that I don't know that people are
seeing in me. So let me try and find it.
What lesson did you learn at Square Records?
Basically, I learnt a lot because they have been in the
game for a while before I joined them and I appreciate
everything. I thank God for everything. It was an
experience. It was a good experience at the end of the
day because I know where I came from. So, I'm always
going to be thankful to God for that experience.
What is your relationship with them?
They are my friends. They've always being my friend.
Those who know long before you started music would
say that it has taken quite a long time to get to where
you are now, do you agree?
Actually, it took long but at the end of the day I would
say God's time is the best. I started as a dancer in my
secondary school, Kings' College, Lagos. When I got
into the University of Lagos (UNILAG), I started
music and even though it was tough I persevered. There
were ups and downs, but after several years things took
a better shape and here I am today, by God's grace.
What has been the gain and pain of fame for you so
far?
So many things and it has also deprived me of so many
things.
Lets look at one major thing it has deprived you of
It happened only recently when I travelled for a show.
When I got back to Nigeria, I was driving with some of
my friends that came with me and then one of them was
like, 'menh, me I go just stop by for here, arrange
myself, chop because this food go bad'. Immediately he
said that, I was like make we go but almost at the same
time I remembered that I couldn't just walk in there
with him. I couldn't do it. That is just one of the things
one misses. I miss crossing the road and walking
through a pedestrian bridge, things like that.
How do you handle female attention?
It didn't just start today; it started back in secondary
school, so it's been a normal thing for me that has been
there since my childhood. So it's not a new thing to
me. But basically I just go with the flow, however it
comes I just take it, you know. Sometimes when one is
busy, one have to let them know that. That is just how
it is. But for those female fans who really want
something with me, they are free, I will give it to you,
Sound Track (laughs).
What are you presently working on?
My album is out already. It's titled Chapter One.
Yes, the 20 track album. Which one in particular is
dear to you the most?
The track that's dear to heart is track one, Story Of
Life.
What's the story behind it?
Basically, it's just a brief summary of my life. If you
really understand what I'm saying you will know where
I'm coming from. But basically, it's just an inspiring
song, saying you can make it. It's just the story of life,
how life is but at the end of the day na God sure pass.
If you have a hustle, hold on to your hustle.
What feeds your inspiration to write songs?
I get inspired first of all by God. God inspires me. If I
have the assurance I'm going to wake up the next day,
that in itself is an inspiration to do anything. So, first of
all, it is God. Secondly, people around me especially
women inspire me. My friends inspire me. Anyone can
inspire me. Like you now, you can inspire me. It
depends.
What do you do for past time?
At the moment, I'm full time into music.
How do you unwind?
I love to hang out with my old time friends not new
friends.
Did you have your parents support to do music
from the word go?
Yes, right from when I was dancing in secondary
school, they've always been supportive. They never
wanted to do any shady stuff to get my breakthrough.
They've always been supporting me in my music.
Do you have any advice for rising talents?
I'm just going to say stay focused. Be true to yourself
because you can't lie to yourself. You can lie to people
but please be true to your own self. And the last one is
believe in your God, because na God sure pass.
Consistency is what defines everybody's dreams like I
always say. What started like a joke ten years ago today
is now a reality. Music was just a passion but I didn't
let it lie low. Also, I knew I didn't want to do a five to
nine job, so I had to put all my energy into it. God saw
my toiling and he made a way for me, today I am
where I am. But if you ask me, I have not even started.
The moment you start to think you have arrived, that
moment your creativity starts to die a slow death. I
thank God for where I am but my best is yet to come.
Challenges will come but stay focused.
What's your take on the music industry?
The Nigerian music industry right now is hot and only
the strong can survive. Strong in the sense that you
need to keep being creative or else you have no place in
it. That is why I say I've not even started.
